Haven't I told you to brush your hair properly for meal-times?’ said Dame Slap, and she slapped the pixie hard. Twinkle burst into tears. So I say to anyone, read this to your young kids, it is brilliant. Full of fantasy and adventure but really simplified. There are no in-depth plots, it is just one adventure after another, no slow character build-ups, just in your face - these are the characters, now let's go. When I read that Enid Blyton was one the favorite childhood authors of the likes of Neil Gaiman and Stieg Larsson, and when a British exchange student at my daughter's college exclaimed in surprise when she heard that her American friends had never heard of Enid Blyton, my curiosity was aroused. It turns out, Blyton is the 4th most translated author (after Shakespeare), wrote 700 books for children, and last year (2009) was voted favorite British author in one poll (beating out J.K. Rowling). When Joe, Beth and Frannie move to the countryside, they discover that their new house lies next to the Enchanted Wood and themagical Faraway Tree.

The Magic Faraway Tree Collection contains all three much-loved books in the Faraway Tree series by the world’s best-loved children’s author, Enid Blyton. Doodle came and was slapped very hard indeed. Bessie and Fanny felt nervous, and hoped that their hair and hands and dresses were clean and tidy. Although I remembered that Moonface loved toffee, I had forgotten about the amazing food they eat. I really want to try a Pop Biscuit! They sound so yummy! Enid has always been good at the written food porn! I find it hard to find an aspect of the Faraway Tree Stories that I can hate or dislike, these were the stories I begun reading for myself at the age of nine, and ever since I have made a habit of returning to them at least once a year never wanting to forget the magic of the stories and how they became such a large part of my childhood. Who could forget the Land of Spells or the Land of Do-As-You-Please or The Land of Take-What-You-Want? Those being just a few of my most loved lands atop the magical Faraway Tree.But in this and some other modern editions, the corporal punishment – and any sense of threat – has just been silently removed. The Magic Faraway Tree Collection is a magical box-set, which includes some of the most amazing stories penned down by Enid Blyton. The collection includes classic stories like The Magic Tree Faraway Tree, The Folk of the Faraway Tree, and The Enchanted Wood. This book will make for an ideal read for children aged between 10 and 12 years. And keep in mind this is all about the adventure and that these books are essentially for kids. In fact, these books make an excellent start to get your kids reading and enjoying the written word. So, as an adult, don't be critical of the glaring irregularities of life - for example when the kids go to the Faraway Tree in the middle of the night and return early morning and their Mother doesn't really seem to mind. Be prepared also that within the group, it is Jo who predominantly takes control and makes the decisions. When at home Bessie and Fanny have to do 'female' chores with their Mother like sewing and Jo has to do 'male' chores with their Father like working the garden. I point this out ahead of reading - IT IS NOT SEXIST, it was just a reflection of the times when Blyton wrote these fantastic books. When Joe, Beth and Frannie move to the countryside, they discover that their new house lies next to the Enchanted Wood! And in that wood stands the Magic Faraway Tree. This is no ordinary tree - it is home to more magical lands full of elves, pixies, talking creatures and wonderful adventures than the children ever imagined possible!

These stories all revolve around the central characters mentioned and their adventures both in the Faraway Tree and in the lands above. Like I said, simple adventure based stories for kids to grip onto rather than have to wade through the scene and character formation.

Even after all these years, I still adore this book. It's filled with the kind of adventures you long for as a child, even adult me would love to climb the Faraway Tree! Join the children they explore the most magical of all fairytale worlds in the three original Magic Faraway Tree novels by bestselling author, Enid Blyton.

Blyton was a prolific author of children's books, who penned an estimated 800 books over about 40 years. Her stories were often either children's adventure and mystery stories, or fantasies involving magic. Notable series include: The Famous Five, The Secret Seven, The Five Find-Outers, Noddy, The Wishing Chair, Mallory Towers, and St. Clare's.

I did enjoy some of the characters Moon-face in particular but the Saucepan man really winds me up he's the most annoying a repetitive character ever created. I was hoping for more substance in this book and it explains why I never remembered anything that happened. When Joe, Beth and Frannie move to a new home, an Enchanted Wood is on their doorstep. And when they discover the Faraway Tree, it proves to be the beginning of many magical adventures! Join them and their friends Moonface, Saucepan Man and Silky the fairy as they discover which new land is at the top of the Faraway Tree. Will it be the Land of Spells, the Land of Treats, or the Land of Do-As-You-Please? Come on an amazing adventure – there’ll be adventures waiting whatever happens. Out of the three stories I would say The Magic Faraway Tree was the better of the three and I would've given this story alone 4 stars. The Enchanted Wood and The Folk of the Faraway Tree I would only give 2.5stars each. One day they discover a tree which seems larger than the others and decide to climb it, uncovering a host of magical people and creatures that actually live in between the branches in cosy little homes. In this novel we are introduced to the lives of a family with 3 young children, Jo, Bessie and Fanny.There is always an adventure waiting on the other side for Jo, Bessie, Fanny and their friends no matter whatever happens. These stories are true classics and have been enjoyed by children for the longest time all around the world. Given the recent furore over rewriting Roald Dahl, I wonder if we'll ever get justice for the Faraway Tree? These stories will take children on a fascinating and amazing adventure to the ‘enchanted wood’. The stories take place in an enchanted forest in which a magical tree, the Faraway Tree grows. The tree is so tall that its branches touch the clouds and it is wide enough to accommodate small houses on its branches. Jo, Bessie and Fanny move into a new house near the forest, when they discover the tree. They are in awe of the tree and its magnificence. They climb the tree only to discover that it is inhabited by magical creatures like Moon-Face, Saucepan Man and Silky the Fairy. They also find a way to the magical land, which is different at every visit. The magical land at the top is sometimes extremely pleasant such as the the Land of the Goodies and the Land of Do-As-You-Please, whereas a few times the children had come across very unpleasant and scary lands like the Land of Dame Slap. selectedStore.City }}, {{ selectedStore.State }} {{ selectedStore.Country }} {{ selectedStore.Zip }}
