Sweet but not saccharine and singsong but not forced, Martin’s text is one that will invite rereadings as it affirms parental wishes for children while admirably keeping child readers at its heart.” It is arranged as a letter to the most important and beloved person in the world. And all of the lines are spotted with tiny and hidden reasons for love. The Wonderful Things You Will Be (2015) by Emily Winfield Martin is the rare picture book that truly has something for everyone. This thoughtful, quiet story imagines all of the things little ones (both babies and bigger kids) will grow up to be including creative and clever as well as brave and bold.

Martin's rhyming text moves the narrative along with lyrical narration reminiscent of a poem or a lullaby. Although this book is an obvious choice for parents to read with their children, it can also work just as well in a story time program. The text is just a tad too long for a baby story time but I could see toddlers or school age children being drawn in by the bright colors and rhymes. Poor Duncan just wants to color. But when he opens his box of crayons, he finds only letters, all saying the same thing: We quit! I loved this children’s book totally. The illustrations are lovely and have pastel and baby-like colors that are nostalgic that I feel would be quite attractive to a child. The text is rhythmic like a lullaby. And there is a harmony to both the text and the illustrations together. But what is most beautiful is the message of the book itself. It instills a positive attitude in children towards life by first getting them to ponder their birth as a special occasion and emphasizing the uniqueness of their individual selves and what they could bring about to the world while at the same time emphasizing a selfless attitude.Sweet but not saccharine and singsong but not forced, Martin's text is one that will invite rereadings as it affirms parental wishes for children while admirably keeping child readers at its heart.”

I am in huge danger of dehydrating after reading this. Is this one of the sweetest books ever or has becoming a mother turned me to mush? I just adored this. A hilarious picture book about dealing with unexplained feelings…and the danger in suppressing them!

The writer has also won Gelett Burgess Children’s Book awards in 2013 for The Wonderful Things You Will Be and another work, Dream Animals: A Bedtime Journey. Sales Data The Wonderful Things You Will Be by Emily Winfield Martin is a delightful book. It explores childhood dreams, good character, and family relationships. It inspires children to express their hopes and to be themselves. It encourages them to dream big and achieve their dreams. This sort of positive message is what should always be anticipated from a children’s book, and I loved this book mostly for its message. It’s very nostalgic like floating on a childhood cloud. I love the way this book suggests possibilities of things to be and also states positive attributes (like kindness) that they know the child will display. It's a book that works on various levels and makes children think in a playful yet deep way. The Wonderful Things You Will Be has a loving and truthful message that will endure for lifetimes and makes a great gift to the ones you love for any occasion.

The book has its own individuality, thanks to the talents of the author. Emily is not just an ordinary writer, but she’s a poet and an artist who creates adorable illustrations for her poems. All the characters and drawings are made in the same style and manner, and they do not repeat but yet all are colorful and beautiful.

The whole text is a poem which consists of a parent’s words, and the message is an admission of love for a baby. There is a description of parents’ love and eternal care which will be a support for the baby throughout their whole life, whatever this person will be, from barefoot and bold until the all-mighty adult. Emily Winfield Martin is a collector and lover of fairy tales, and the original Grimm’s tale of Snow White and Rose Red enchanted and haunted her all her life. She is a painter of real and imaginary things, and the author and illustrator of such books as Dream Animalsand The Wonderful Things You Will Be.Emily lives among the giant trees of Portland, Oregon, and if you need her, you might look in the heart of the woods. Illustrations and simple, rhyming text reveal a parent's musings about what a child will become, knowing that the child's kindness, cleverness, and boldness will shine through no matter what, as will the love they share.

Her children are so serious... and so unflappable... that they convey not just hope for the future, but a sense of manifest destiny." -- Publishers Weekly starred reviewThis is the first time / There's ever been you, / So I wonder what wonderful things / You will do." My parents finally read it to me over the weekend, which was really fun. The author’s inspiring message brought my parents to tears. Literally. Emily is a unique girl, and all her works reflect her talents. In fact, her natural environment among high fir trees in Portland allows her to create lots of outstanding things in the fiction genre such as pictures, poems, and novels. That’s how The Wonderful Things You Will Be appeared. I stared at this book for several weeks because it was placed next to my hanging clothes bouquet and changing table. From brave and bold to creative and clever, the rhythmic rhyme expresses all the loving things that parents think of when they look at their children. With beautiful, and sometimes humorous, illustrations, this is a book grown-ups will love reading over and over to kids—both young and old. A great gift for any occasion, but a special stand-out for baby showers, birthdays, and graduation. The Wonderful Things You Will Behas a loving and truthful message that will endure for lifetimes.
