About this deal

I have never had a problem ‘managing’ with Brooks saddles, and I’m certainly not a fair weather cyclist. I do run mudguards though.

Swift is one of the first modern gent's racing Brooks saddles; traditionally available only with titanium rails, but since 2008 it has also been manufactured with a chrome plated steel metalwork. Another classic design for the racing cyclist, the B15 Swallow’s design was originally patented in 1937, when it became a popular choice for professional cyclists in the UK and on the Continent. Old world" craftsmanship and unsurpassed build quality distinguishes this top of the range Brooks from anything else on the market. Individual and distintive looks with best quality leather and copper rivets only add to it's appeal. the jaws are plastic, so there is no rust-marking of the wet leather. Let the leather dry out slowly. I don't think he was suggesting riding a gel couch from Walmart. If I'm not mistaken, I believe he was wondering why you would want to wait so long for a saddle to be broken in when you can buy other high quality saddles which don't require that kind of breaking in.A lace tied loosely keeps the narrow waist shape....too tight lacing is like sitting on a broom handle. Awesome saddle ... but it finally broke. I have had this saddle for about 6-7 years. Unfortunately the welds that attach the frame of the saddle to the rails fractured on a pretty technical MTB ride.

While synthetic saddles come in a bewildering variety of shapes, sizes and widths, leather saddles are remarkably simple in comparison. For starters there is no real requirement for exact widths as your own personal anatomy will dictate the final form. Generally speaking, though the shape of your leather saddle will be dictated by your riding style. A more upright position for touring or commuting would require a bigger perch as more of your weight is placed on the saddle and less on the hands. In contrast, if you’re riding a very aggressive position you’ll need a narrower option to account for the forward rotation of the pelvis and the fact that more of your weight is supported by your arms. I didn't edit your post, I quoted what you originally posted, where according to you, I'm an idiot who has been taken in by "the crap". Swift is one of the first modern gent's racing Brooks saddles. It was traditionally available only with titanium rails, but since 2008 it has also been manufactured with a chrome plated steel metalwork. Both versions feature skived sides and hand hammered copper rivets. Brooks Swift Chrome Saddle Features Thanks for all the views, do you think that using one of those funky little ass saver mudguards would be sufficient, to give the saddle a fighting chance in the rain?

When you think of a leather saddle you’re probably thinking of a Brooks B17. It’s the classic shape, and for general use it’s pretty hard to beat. I use mine on my everyday/gravel tourer, and it’s only getting more comfortable. The break in period for the standard B17 is a little longer than with the rest of the range I’ve found, this seems to be to do with the extended side wings. As the upper presses down these want to flare outwards, but your inner thighs prevent this. After a short "breaking in" period the saddle moulds itself to your body's individual contours in much the same way as your favourite pair of walking boots did. This is truely nature's answer to anatomical fitting. Subsequently, Brooks England saddles have caught my eye adorning so many great bikes; from the Rapha filmsteeds, to B17s on famous round-the-world bikes. That said it is very comfortable and was from the off. I’ve just fitted it to a fully guarded up bike. We’ll see how it holds up. So it was, that when my 21st Birthday approached this spring, and my parents wanted to get me something "memorable and special, that will last a lifetime"; instead of a watch, wallet, or cufflinks, I opted for a Brooks England Swift saddle.
