About this deal

The Cricut Maker 3 is an upgrade to the original Cricut Maker. It’s structurally the same product, with some new features and upgrades that make it more efficient, especially for crafters regularly working on large-sized projects. Learn more about the original Maker in my article, Cricut Maker: An In-Depth Review. Both the Maker and Maker 3 can be adapted to almost any craft project, including wood and metal work (Image credit: Cricut) The new roller holder is used to help you feed your Smart Materials into the Cricut Maker 3 and is not compatible (or necessary) with the original Maker. Not only does it keep your Smart Materials neatly in place, but it trims the roll when your project is complete. Neither of these accessories is strictly necessary if you buy a Cricut Maker 3, but they are nice to have. Cricut Maker vs. Cricut Maker 3: Which should you buy? The Cricut Maker comes in various colors, including Rose, Lilac, Blue, and Champagne, while the Maker 3 comes in light blue only (although that will likely change in the future). Another thing that is different is the original Maker only had a metallic colored lid and glossy white body while the new Maker has an all over glossy color with a silver metallic lid.

Functionally the two machines are almost identical, except that the Cricut Maker 3 gets the Smart Materials ability and speed. There are some minimal cosmetic differences. The metallic stripe around the machine is shiny on the Cricut Maker but matte on the Cricut Maker 3. Plus, the start button on the Maker 3 has a more logical triangular "play" symbol rather than a Cricut logo. Cricut Maker 3 is the newest craft cutting machine from Cricut, and actually is very similar to Cricut Maker in size and, like the older machine, can be used with more than 300 materials.Cricut Maker offers the widest range of tools for cutting, scoring, writing, and adding decorative effects – all so you can take on virtually any project you can imagine. With new tools always being added, Cricut Maker grows with you as you master each newcraft. The two Cricut Maker products have some similarities, including the following: Maker vs Maker 3: Materials Looking to buy a Cricut Maker? You might be wondering what the differences are in Cricut Maker vs. Cricut Maker 3. This post covers the differences between these two Cricut machines so you can make an informed decision about buying! The tools for both Maker cutting machines are the same and are interchangeable. The “adaptive tool system” tools I’ve starred below ONLY work on the Maker and Maker 3 machines—they do not work on Cricut Explore Air 2 or Cricut Joy machines. The Cricut Maker and Cricut Maker 3 have more tools and possibilities than other Cricut machines.

The Maker 3 delivers greater speeds if you’re working with Smart Materials. With more than double the speed on the Cricut Maker, you can create double the craft in the same amount of time. Both machines connect to your computer using either a USB cord or bluetooth. Bluetooth is fine for most cutting, but for longer cuts using the Knife Blade (see below), I do recommend plugging in via USB so you don’t risk lisung the connection. Cricut Maker and Cricut Maker 3 Tools In addition to saving you the time of putting materials on a mat, Smart Materials allow the Maker 3 to cut two times faster than the Maker. Next up is speed! Cricut Maker 3 cuts up to 2x faster than Cricut Maker, when using Smart Materials without a mat.

If you sewor think you might ever want to learn, the Cricut Maker family of machines might be the right machine for you. They can help with one of the most difficult and tedious parts, marking and cutting pattern pieces. You can even upload your own sewing patterns. The buttons are the same, too. There's a button to turn the machine off, a button to load and unload materials, and buttons to start and pause the cutting process.

The Maker works with over 300 material types, including tough ingredients like balsa wood and fabric. The Maker 3 can also cut over 300 materials, with commerical-grade cutting and the exact same powerful tools for debossing, engraving, and more. You can find the Adaptive Tool System feature on both machines, as well. This feature allows you to actively manage the blade’s position by lifting and rotating it intelligently into the perfect position for your next cut. This enhances precision and makes it easier to maintain optimum pressure.

Plus, the Cricut Maker 3's cutting speed is dramatically faster when using the Smart Materials, easily twice as fast. The Cricut Maker 3 has a new power adaptor, which allows for up to 3 amps of output. The power cords are not interchangeable between the Maker and Maker 3.
