Notes: Despite the claims that Genesis had already released the material, from their Wembley 1987 performance. This audio captures an entirely different night, than those used for the official video / DVD. The box set is naturally as with most Genesis products, in complete and missing songs from the performances. The booklet is a bit amateurish which is a real shame. Any fans familiar with the, ahem, unofficial recordings (oft disguised as ‘Italian imports’) through the medium of bootleg albums, the tape-sharing circles and digital file-sharing/torrenting of the modern era, will know a different story. The Movement has become an invaluable source of information and it doesn’t take much digging to reveal treasures that go far beyond the official documents. In particular, the sterling work of TM Productions has seen definitive live recordings become available from Zurich 1977, Chicago 1978, Frankfurt 1981, 1973 (“ the album Genesis Live could have been”, “an outstanding triumph”), and The Lyceum 1980 (surprise surprise).Why the LP set was shortened is unclear. Presumably they didn't want to make the set too expensive and decided to create a best-of of the 5CD set. CD edition featuring performances ranging from their 1970 lineup of Banks/Gabriel/Mayhew/Phillips/Rutherford to the 1998 tour with Ray Wilson as vocalist. This is a marvellous collection of early stuff from the band as they appeared on the Beeb. Many of the recordings are different to the studio versions, especially the early versions of the songs from "Trespass". However, they decided - unlike other artists - to cut the content heavily and shorten complete shows as well. Why they did not simply make a round box set with all available recordings and complete radio shows, remains a mystery. We are quite aware that not all of the before mentioned broadcasted concerts are complete shows, but nevertheless they could have released all available content. The fans would have been able to cope with duplications of different songs, especially since they would have been from different concerts and tours anyway. But now there are incomplete shows, in addition these are strangely arranged on the CDs. From the early recordings important parts have been left out and the recording from Wembley 1975 is missing completely except for Watcher Of The Skies. The BBC show from 1998 with Ray Wilson, Anthony Drennan and Nir Z. is only represented with two songs. Vinyl fans are annoyed twice because there is even less material. This
