About this deal

I wouldn’t ever advise anyone to use tools or materials they weren’t comfortable with or legally entitled to use. All those yellow spots are really standing out now. So you can use masking fluid over painted watercolor paper.

You can use just about anything you like to apply masking fluid to paper, and each tool will help to create different effects. Apart from brushes, I use things like a ruling pen, toothbrushes for splatter effects, sponges, bamboo quills, and “color shapers” which are silicone tools traditionally used for painting, blending and sculpting. Masking Fluid with a BrushDo not apply masking fluid to wet paper because it will be absorbed into the paper fibers and increase the risk of tearing when you remove the dried fluid. Masking fluid creates a protective barrier on your watercolor paper to prevent the paper from being colored by paint. The main ingredient in masking fluid is liquid latex. Most products you can find are tinted with coloring to provide a better contrast on white paper, making it easier to see where you are painting the mask. And you can see that masking fluid repels the color. So it's repelling all that watercolor off my paper. Dried masking fluid should peel off easily, and you can simply lift it off as slowly and gently as possible. Keep in mind that you can also use masking fluid on a previously painted area. If you have some light toned shapes you want to preserve then you can mask them with fluid. However this will almost always lift off a small amount of paint when you remove the masking fluid. The amount of lifting off generally depends on the staining properties of your watercolors. I don’t advise using student grade watercolors for this kind of thing because they seem to lift off too easily. You want to be comfortable with the tools you use when painting. When it comes to masking fluid, you can get products that come in bottles. You can use an old paintbrush in this case, or there is special applicator masking fluid pens in different sizes for this purpose. These are great for more precise applications, while the brush is best for larger surface coverage. You can also get refillable fluid pump markers and bottles with tip applicators. You should also take note that the pens can clog when using masking fluid. Another disadvantage is that the masking fluid will ruin your paintbrush, so make sure it is an old or cheap one you do not mind throwing away after use.Pay attention to the stated drying times and be sure to apply it thinly in multiple layers to save yourself this hassle. Little lines that I added added with the pen. Make sure to get those off. Those are easy to miss. You wanna make sure you get all your masking fluid off.

Using a sponge to apply masking fluid is quite a fun and creative technique to try out. You can use natural or synthetic sponges to get started and all you need to do is make sure that it is damp before you get started. Much like when working with paintbrushes, you will need to wet your sponge and squeeze out excess moisture as you work if you don’t want to gum up your sponge. You can cut your sponges into different shapes and sizes if you want to experiment even further with this technique. You can begin by pouring in equal amounts of your fabric cement and water into the airtight container. You can add a tint to the mix if you wish by dipping your brush into a little watercolor paint, and then adding to the mixture in the container. You can use the spoon to lightly mix everything. Always stir gently and never shake the container, the same applies to your bought masking fluid. Hi. It has been hard for me to lift off the masking fluid from my paint. It comes out tearing pieces of the paper and I have to disposal the paint. I am a beginner. I use good quality paper (300) and good quality paints. What can be wrong? That's when I floated another color or another wash over that for a darker center. These nice yellow dots in the middle will show through. You can also use base metal foil for masking too. I have never used this method as the foil is expensive and I don’t want to waste it. For the perfectionists The few places where masking fluid had not covered the bird completely were lifted off with a damp brush and kitchen roll. I left others on the branch to help with its texture. The formerly protected area was now ready for painting.
