The very long chapters didn't help either, I felt there was too much narration and too little dialogue and the pacing was very slow. I'm glad I read this book and I'm not easily giving up on this author, as I've heard her previous novels are much better. But if you're new to Rebecca's writing, maybe it's better to read some of them and leave this one for later, or if you're into bonkbusters I wholeheartedly recommend 'Scandalous Lies' by Nigel May. Had such good potential BUT so poorly written!! Really struggled to finish this, had to force myself to skim read so I could finish the book... I needed to know the ending 🤣 There's an almost claustrophobic feel about this story.Whilst the description of the Luxe pods with their cashmere slippers and leather beds are wonderful, the reader is aware that there is nowhere for the characters to hide. They are cocooned, within the confines of the plane for the ten hour flight and this adds a tension to the plot. I liked the bitching among the crew the best to be honest. I was expecting to like the mystery of the stalker as well as the murderer but I was really disappointed to read about both of them. I figured out the stalker pretty early. With the murderer, there wasn't enough to go on. I think Rebecca Chance wanted to add more drama and more interest by revealing that there is a murderer onboard but didn't elaborate anything. The murderer was barely mentioned few times save for an introduction.

But the stalker story line is not the only one going on during this flight. Romance, scandal, envies, jealousy... they all have their own role. With a really bitchy flight attendant and her entourage, a flirty self-centered pilot, a chef more preoccupied for the staff than for the food and an oscar-nominated actress with a big secret, there's enough drama to fill several books. Oh, and don't forget the sexy scenes (plane toilets are there for something, aren't they?). Even if one of the scenes made me laugh out loud after discovering the chef "big" secret (curious, aren't you?). Mile High at first seems a normal Condon fancy.... Eddie West, the son of an Irish immigrant, brings about Prohibition singlehanded. His reason for doing so is that Prohibition will provide business opportunities. This is instantly understood by "the 18 greediest, the seven most hypocritical and the five wealthiest families in the country" to whom he goes for financing.... You’ll always be my first choice. Only his second, and most famous work, The Manchurian Candidate, had not previously used doggerel from the Manual as a title source.

I’d never read a Rebecca Chance novel, so when I was asked if I’d like to read and review Mile High for part of her blog tour I jumped at the chance having heard so many fabulous things about her writing and after meeting her at a book event in London. I am a little disappointed, because there was so much potential in this story - setting the novel on a plane was in my opinion a brilliant idea, just imagine, a ten - hour flight, you are closed on a plane with a murderer, stalker, singer, actress and other VIPs - how much can happen? Much! At least I've expected tons of action, but it was slow, too slow for my liking, and the tension was not as palpable as I'd like it to be.

According to "Mile High," it is not the Mafia that is moving into business; Condon's thesis is that the Mafia was the tool of "legitimate" business from the beginning, that the heroin pumped into our children's arms has been sent there by respectable American businessmen....

Steamin’ up the room -the sexual content is more explicit in the language and tone, heavier amount of sexual scenes. I loved the bitchy comments that came out from some of the cabin crew, comments that Judge Rinder would have been proud of! In fact, I think I would have quite liked to work that flight! Everything was tied at the end nicely. As always, it was full of scandals, mysteries (even though a bit disappointing), sex and glamour. Overall, I enjoyed the book. I’ve been a flight attendant for years. I thought I’d see it all, but when my new job lands me onboard working for the most egotistical and self-righteous diva in the NHL, I start to second guess everything. Including the promise I made to myself of never hooking up with an athlete again…no matter how annoyingly tempting he may be. Alongside Catalina, there are a whole cast of great characters, all deliciously individual and who invoked the whole spectrum of emotions from me. There were ones I loved, Jane for instance, more I hated, their sneakiness really knew no bounds. Most of them, true I have found to this genre, putting on faces, hiding true motives, sometimes leading to near farcical action! I laughed out loud, I wept a bit, I screamed at the characters. I was, as a reader, really put through the wringer!

Condon just cannot be all bad, try as he will. Mile High contains at least one phrase that will outlast the century. Someone's face is described as resembling "a fish cake with a mustache." Condon should discard the rest of the book and rebuild on this foundation. [2] I was also a little confused by the author adding chapters about other characters that seemed to bring nothing to the book, as they had nothing to do with the plot. I guess I know what was the purpose of this, as Ms Chance was here and there adding some information that may be misleading for the reader, that may shake their opinion and that may make them change their minds about the characters and guessing, who the stalker is - I truly didn't know who is the stalker, and thanks to those extra information about different characters I was changing my opinion about who it can be. There’s SO MUCH to love about this, but it was the playful banter that really won me over at the start. It’s a very long book by a new-to-me author, so I knew that it’d need to have a strong start to have any chance of holding my interest – and it definitely did. While Zanders’ personality wasn’t immediately likable, I could tell that there was something intriguing lurking underneath the surface. I was also drawn in by the instant chemistry between these two, the way Stevie kept Zanders on his toes, and how he just couldn’t seem to stop himself from getting closer. It’s an instant attraction but not instalove, which made the relationship feel more hard won and richer. They really do take their time to build up a strong emotional connection, and that was one of the best parts of the book. I was also hooked on both characters – the infuriatingly arrogant (yet immensely appealing) Zanders and the strong, fierce Stevie, who battles insecurities about her curvy figure. Watching Zanders support Stevie and make her love herself right along with him was so very fulfilling, and one of the (many) reasons why it was so easy to fall for this couple. It was a fantastic first experience with this new author, and it’s got me incredibly excited to read more from the series. I loved it! But that’s how good Liz’s writing is, no matter how many times you’ve read her books, it’s different every time. Liz knows how to convey all the emotions in her books to you. There are times when you are happy, angry, laughing and sometimes you just cry because of the pain his character conveys in his stories.Stevie (Vee), my sweet girl, reminds me a lot of myself and I think the author wrote it in hopes that some (if not all) women could relate to her. As a high-end pastry chef who recently won the most prestigious award in my industry, I’m desperate to prove I deserve it. But with a new title comes new pressure, and I can’t create a fresh and inspiring dessert to save my life. There is everything in this book. Apart from the stalker, we have a murder, romance, a lot of scandals, drama, danger, some sexy scenes (well, there is something like "mile club", no?) and some fun. It might not have been exactly this what I was expecting from this much acclaimed author, but it was enough to make me sure that I really want to read other Rebecca Chance's books. And I am also certain that you are going to find something that you'll like in "Mile High". Catalina, one of the celebrities had to deal with a lot throughout the flight. Her stalker is on board and that added a lot of mystery. I changed my mind about who the stalker was several times. You’re not an idiot. You’re not crazy for wanting to be wanted.
