About this deal

Digital radio has had a significant impact on in-car entertainment over the past decade. The tech is now fitted to almost every new car as standard, and is how more than 60 per cent of us listen to the radio. There is even talk of permanently switching off the FM transmitters in the near future, making many car radios obsolete. Will alarms, presets or other saved settings be deleted if my radio is disconnected from the mains?

Company number: 1394141; Registered office: Media House, Peterborough Business Park, Lynch Wood, Peterborough PE2 6EA and H Bauer Publishing, Company number: LP003328; Note: If you don’t have a laptop, you will need to remove Highway’s antenna from your windscreen and upgrade the software using a PC running Windows 7 8 and 10. Designed as an easy-fit solution for the millions of vehicles on the road worldwide without digital radio, you’ll find Highway 600 easy to install in your car, in most cases you won’t even need any tools, just a few simple steps and you’ll be up and running. Once all wired up, you simply switch on the car, fire up your existing radio, select aux-in as the source, switch on the Pure Highway controller, follow the start-up prompts and choose your radio station from the display. Bingo – it works straight away, and my 25-year-old car starts playing 6Music for the first time. What else does the Pure Highway 400 do?On our test route, using the FM method brought annoying interference on both the FM channel and the DAB. The unit struggled to find even the BBC’s national stations, and couldn’t hold them when we were in areas of low reception. The main difference over the Pure Highway 400 also tested here (below) is the addition of a separate microphone and phone connection option, allowing high-quality Bluetooth calls. Yet despite having this extra, the Kenwood is almost half the cost of the Pure. That makes it a bit of a bargain.

Good in high strength signal areas, but it tends to become a little patchy outside of densely populated areas. While this is true of DAB in general, compared to the OEM-fitted DAB systems that come in most of the modern cars we test at CAR, the Pure drops out much more frequently, and for longer periods of time.If you’re looking for a more discreet way to listen to DAB, then the AutoDAB USB is virtually invisible once installed. Rather than using a separate screen, a small box connects to your car via its USB port. This allows you to scan through stations and select them using the car’s infotainment system, even via the steering wheel remote controls if fitted. It has worked perfectly for 8 months then 2 weeks ago it all went wrong. The controller is lit and saying not connected to aerial. I have tried to connect by pressing the 3 buttons but it just says connecting but never does. None of the buttons respond on the controller and my phone was disconnected and says that I need an app to connect. The Pure Go app says that it is too old for my phone. Digital radio plays all the time. If this setting is not available, to carry on using Highway you’ll need to tell your car to forget your iPhone. How many phones will Highway support in hands-free mode? Personal Assistant : Access your smartphone's smart features through Siri or OK Google voice control

Enjoy your own music choice and safe mobile calling with Highway 600 thanks to built-in Bluetooth.Pair your phone or tablet with Highway and listen wirelessly to your own music collection, or your favourite music streaming service through your existing audio system. The same Bluetooth connection lets you make and take calls on the go safely and clearly thanks to the dedicated call buttons and supplied microphone.

The Pure Highway 400 is one of the best DAB/DAB+ car adapters available in 2017. It’s relatively easy to fit, looks smart and offers better sound quality than you’d get from FM. However, the reception isn’t as strong as it could be, and the adapter is fairly expensive. Alternative adapters to consider You will be asked ‘ Do you want to upgrade all?‘Press ’Y’ and then press the ‘Return’ button on your laptop .

But some relatively young cars still didn’t have DAB fitted at the factory, and changing the entire stereo for an aftermarket system is expensive and could lose functionality from a built-in infotainment system. The Pure 600 takes a few seconds to find the local DAB stations and then it’s ready to go. Quality is very impressive, though it's obviously dependent on your car audio system and the DAB coverage in your area. Installing the Pure Highway 600 is relatively simple. You need a 12V accessory or USB outlet to power the antenna, along with an existing car audio system. This needs to have either an aux input or FM radio – the Pure Highway 600 transmits over both, although the aux option provides better audio quality. Before starting - there are several requirements needed to ensure a successful software upgrade via USB: Reception is excellent and I haven't lost a signal yet, it even stays playing where I use to loose FM radio stations. So anyone interested in adding dab to there car I can highly recommend the Pure Highway. Setup was simple and took seconds and it boots instantly so there's no delay from turning the car on to the radio playing. You can also stream music from your phone using Bluetooth and it will also stream and control Spotify Premium from your mobile.
