About this deal

This header must be fitted at the bottom thus the rad becomes fully pumped and fully balanced as it becomes a reverse return set up. Very clever. Because the top of the radiator in a C5 Corvette is angled forward, the path the air must take isn’t straight. A skilled fabricator, Smith built an air intake for the radiator, and mounted it at the bottom of the front bumper fascia, above the splitter. The intake was as wide as the radiator, but it still wouldn’t keep the car cool, even after trying a few different radiators. By that point, Smith was on a first-name basis with the folks at C&R Radiators and Ron Davis Racing. To test whether air was flowing out of the hood, Ahlstrom suggested he tape yarn tufts to it and film it at speed with a GoPro. It’s the easiest and most accurate way to determine airflow. I read something on here that recomended not using them . Ive not had any fitted for a couple of years now and had no probs.

I wasn’t happy to just hang it in a simple way, like this, but I had to bow to the builder and plumber’s years of experience. (Not experience of this type of radiator I might add.) And with that they agreed to let me hang the radiator while they got on with other work. Once the pipes are inserted, it’s time to solder the pipework. Using a blowtorch, heat the join until it is hot enough for the solder to melt. When applying solder, it’s important to ensure it runs around the whole fitting. Then, allow the solder to set and wipe away any residue and clean again with wire wool. Step 6: Fit the Valves Shoving something into a rad to try and 'adjust' the way water flows through it is asking for trouble (in my humble opinion). Radiators work via convection as well as directed flow and should deliver their rated output unmodified. If you want a radiator which comes with a baffle, then pay for one that says it has one fitted - as I said above, you get what you pay for. I think what I need is a recommendation for a DIY or after-market nylon widget I can fit in when I mount these rads.

I'm re-doing my house and am installing vertical column rads to free up a lot of essential wall space. I'm worried that the water will shoot straight across the bottom tappings rather than going up the columns. He was a very smart engineer and he looked at what I was doing, and said I had a couple of fundamental problems,” Smith said. There were other locations in the room where I could have hung my vertical radiator so it might better give out its energy by not being in a corner, but for various practical reasons this corner was a good place.a single plug was too short so I cut another down to size to fill the rest of the hole (see the drawing below); It was nearly under the apex of the roof giving good access for a plumber to provide pipework from above; I was really concerned that the radiator might break away from the wall after the work was done and burst the pipes causing a very bad flood as well as other damage. So I wanted to do all I could to prevent such a disaster.

This was a great idea. When I looked into it I found suitable radiators could be obtained that would fit well in the space and hopefully give out enough heat. Below you can see the radiator we chose in our desired location. Pic. 1. I Hung My Vertical Radiator So It Looked Like This Pic. 1. I Hung My Vertical Radiator So It Looked Like This. Why This Particular Location? I've replaced the water pump today and there was nothing at all wrong with it. It was in perfect condition. But at least it'll now last longer. The most important thing I noticed is that now even on the hottest days — it can be over 100 degrees at Miller — the car doesn’t go over 210 degrees,” Smith said. “By understanding how air flow works, understanding that air clings to a curved surface, and in designing the air box to have those contoured surfaces and putting them in the diffuser with a nice gentle curve upward, I got a lot more air to a lot more of the surface area of the radiator and then made it much easier for the air to exit out the other side.” The end result is a car that runs at 210 degrees in 100 degree heat and benefits from about 30 pounds of additional downforce in the front.
