Speyside distillery Tamnavulin have announced their latest creation, Tamnavulin White Wine Cask Edition – following on from the Red Wine Cask Editions. T hat‘s it for now. I‘d bet t er get on with deciding my whisky pairings for my Feis Ile dinner menu. It usually takes quite a bit of experimentation here at home and a lot of to-ing and fro-ing amongst the whiskies before settling on the pairings but I‘d better make some decisions soon! Nose…Very fresh and fruity, aromas of apple, pear, quince, lemon and lime before deeper notes came calling vanilla extract and chocolate, a citric burst, coconut, you now open the car window as you pass the newly mown lawn. With margherita pizza, try serving whisky long in a highball glass over ice, topped with cloudy apple juice and a slice of lemon. The apple is sweet and also just acidic enough to cut through the mozzarella.

Initial maturation in ex-bourbon or whisky American oak casks gives sweetness, and once that foundation is created, it’s transferred into secondary wine or sherry casks for double flavour maturation,” says Andrew. The whisky captures the essence of what it is stored in: “The Sherry Cask Edition takes on notes of dried fruit and chocolate, for example, while the Red Wine Cask Edition tastes of red berries and tannins.” Taste: Lemon, grapefruit and baked apple tart together with a hint of cinnamon spice, ginger and lime biscuits In this way, it is possible to pair whiskies with food in the same way you would if you were choosing a wine, starting with the obvious question – white or red? Tamnavulin takes the guesswork out of this first step, as it uses a double maturation process to age some of its whisky in casks that had previously stored either red wine, white wine or sherry. Friends, family, or some combination of both; Christmas is a time for gathering with your nearest and dearest.Tags: Tamnavulin Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky Tamnavulin White Wine Cask Edition Tamnavulin White Wine Cask Whisky whisky boys You may also like... This was a wonderful accommpanyment to ice cream. One scoop oF mint choc chip, and one scoop of salted caramel. Tamnavulin White Wine Cask Edition showcases the distinctive orchard fruit character of the Speyside distillery, which complements the flavours enhanced by the white wine finish. In line with Tamnavulin’s tradition of double matured whiskies, this expression began its life in American White Oak barrels, before undergoing its second maturation in Sauvignon Blanc white wine casks.

Tamnavulin unveils white wine cask edition single malt

The grinches among us always seem to moan about the festive season getting longer every year, but is that really so bad? Plenty of traditional festivals fall between September and December – a series of excuses to eat different dishes, try different drinks, and enjoy the relaxed company of loved ones. Anyone and everyone. Hogmanay is a time for throwing open your doors for a big party, or taking to the streets to join one of the many public events, with fireworks and mass countdowns towards midnight. The three pairs of stills at Tamnavulin have a total capacity of four million litres annually, though this has yet to be reached. Hanukkah is the traditional Jewish winter celebration that remembers the re-dedication of the Second Temple in Jerusalem during the Maccabean revolt in the second century BC. According to the “miracle of the oil” in the Talmud, when the menorah was re-lit, the flames miraculously stayed alight for eight days, despite there being only enough sacred oil for a single day’s burning. Nose: Orchard green apple notes which combine with banana, ripe honeydew melon and white peach together with fresh citrus, jasmine and vanilla coconut cream

Opened in 1966, it then closed for 12 years, from 1995 until 1885 This expression is the latest edition to Tamnavulin’s core range. The first maturation was in American white oak bourbon barrels for the final maturation period it was transferred to Sauvignon Blanc wine casks. Like my whisky curiosity, these delicious wines sparked another liquid curiosity and I thought: “Oh no, here we go again.” Another slippery slope of geekdom and enjoyment. My heart will always be in exploring whisky and all its wonderful nuance, but I'm now looking for wine-finished whisky and hopefully a wine finish I’ve tried at least once before. The harvest festival is a traditional celebration of the successful gathering of crops. Harvest festival gatherings are often associated with churches in the UK, but they can be organised by anyone: communities, restaurants, even schools. Speyside scotch whisky distillery Tamnavulin, which has found success in its red wine cask finishes, is looking to build on that success by expanding into the realm of white wine. Tamnavulin’s latest release is Tamnavulin White Wine Cask Edition. We now whip up to Speyside where Benriach has launched Benriach Malting Season Second Edition (48.9%abv), the next expression in their annual release produced entirely using malted barley from their own floor maltings. Benriach is one of only seven distilleries in Scotland that continues to practise this tradition and it‘s definitely a feature to see. What could pair better with whisky than haggis and neeps? Photograph: LauriPatterson/Getty Images Hogmanay, 31 December 2023 Originally the pre-Christian Celtic feast day of Samhain, it was believed to be the time when spirits could cross over into our world. Early Christians merged the existing feast with All Hallows Day, and marked the eve before as All Hallows E’en, or Halloween. Fresh fruit brings out the complexities of whisky, especially undertones of apple, pear and peaches. Apple pie is one of the key flavours of Tamnavulin, so serving Double Cask, with its notes of toffee and honey, alongside an actual slice of apple pie makes for a winning pairing.
