Iyengar, Rishi. "The Dress That Broke the Internet, and the Woman Who Started It All". Archived from the original on 16 October 2017 . Retrieved 27 February 2015.

There was not a single character in this book that I liked. Pru is whiny, dependant on others for everything from retuning her car radio to self esteem and personal identity. Azra is spikey and selfish without a care for how her actions effect others. Greg is so wrapped up in his new life with little regard to his former wife and their grown up children. And as for the men that Pru meets in her quest for a new companion ...let's not go there!

"Two Years Later, We Finally Know Why People Saw 'The Dress' Differently". Slate. Archived from the original on 16 January 2018 . Retrieved 3 March 2018. Pru is 70 years old and looking forward to a happy life with husband Gregg in their little cottage in Dorset. Inexplicably, out of the blue, Greg leaves her and the idlyllic life she had planned is in tatters. She descends into a depression and starts questioning her life, and not finding any satisfactory answers.

Moseley, Rachel (2002). Growing up with Audrey Hepburn: text, audience, resonance. Manchester University Press. p.119. ISBN 978-0-7190-6311-4 . Retrieved 16 May 2011. Sanchez, Josh (26 February 2015). " 'What color is this dress' confused celebrities, too". Fansided.com. Retrieved 28 February 2015. This book felt rushed - maybe the author had a deadline to meet? The ending was strange and unsatisfactory - other than the relief that I had finally finished! I would find it difficult to recommend this book to others. JOV - ARVO Journals - JOV - ARVO Journals". jov.arvojournals.org. Archived from the original on 1 April 2018 . Retrieved 1 April 2018. Lastly: characterisation. I was disappointed to find the characters read as flat stereotypes for me. For example, there were lines thrown in that were racist or transphobic, with the sole purpose of trying to create a “typical” inappropriate and elderly character. This felt like a lazy injustice and I wish the characters had been developed beyond such problematic tropes. The 15 Best Memes of 2015". Entertainment Weekly's EW.com. Archived from the original on 14 March 2016 . Retrieved 20 March 2016. The author also has a bizarre dislike for the West Midlands!?! "My friend Tabitha gatecrashes weddings...Sod all else to do in Kidderminster." And "You'd brought us a quiche. A quiche. We'd never seen one of those, we were from Dudley." Neither of these anecdotes add anything to the story and in my opinion they discredit the author. Tikrai vietomis nusijuokdavau balsu.I only finished this book because I have a signed copy. This is one of the worst books I’ve ever read. It’s an embarrassing maze of silliness. At the start it’s easy to relate to Pru’s very sad situation and to feel a great deal of empathy for her. But as the novel unfolds we begin to see her dark side and question if she is in fact a reliable narrator. It starts to make sense why her children are living abroad and never seem to want to visit her.
