Alma Gilbert-Smith. The Women of the Cornish Colony. Exhibition Catalogue for 2002. Cornish Colony Gallery & Museum. Amazing stuff, I will be reading this over and over. This little book has some really profound answers and I wish I'd learned these lessons a little earlier. No matter, I'm learning them now. All things whatsoever ye ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive." "You must act as if you had already received.” Living in the past is a failure method, and a violation of spiritual law. Jesus Christ said 'Behold! Now is the accepted time. Now is the day of salvation.' ” Prepare to live a thousand lives in The Game of Life 2! Most spaces are orange, and a player must follow the directions of the orange space when landed on. Scovel Shinn's writing shares some common beliefs with Mary Baker Eddy, and there is some shared terminology. e.g. 'Infinite Spirit', 'Mortal Mind', 'Treatment', 'Demonstration' and 'Native Nothingness'. However her writing style is more familiar and less verbose than that of Mary Baker Eddy. As in Christian Science, Florence Scovel Shinn questions the reality of evil: "Jesus Christ said: "Resist not evil," for He knew in reality, there is no evil, therefore nothing to resist. This book was written so long ago. It would be interesting to know what the writer,,how they would write it these days. at first blush, i didn't like this book b/c i totally do not agree with the "manifestation" belief system so prevalent today. it is a very small god, made in our own self-serving image, who can be made to do the bidding of our petty desires: the gimmee-gimmee god. This book would argue that we all have the upper hand in our own life paths. That we are responsible for our own woes, our own love in life, our own illness. Additionally, there are a number of themed variations that bring beloved pop culture characters into the mix, adding a unique twist to the gameplay and the game board. Most important, from the quality of writing, it seemed to me that Florence had the standing to write such a book. Her manner of writing flowed from her experience. I have no doubt that those beliefs worked for her, even if they didn't help me much.

Whatsoever a man soweth that shall he also reap." This means that whatever man sends out in word or deed, will return to him; what he gives, he will receive.” Florence Scovel Shinn, an illustrator living in New York City, became a teacher of New Thought after a divorce. New Thought was a movement which holds the belief that individuals can create their own reality through intentional thoughts and prayer, much like the current Law of Attraction movement. The Game of Life and How to Play It is her first book, and is remarkable for being written by a woman and meant for a genteel female audience. One good thing that comes from thinking in the way these books suggest is that it probably makes you a happier person. Believing that you will be successful is a lot healthier than believing you’ll be a failure. And sometimes sanity is it’s own reward. Instead of practising the methodologies suggested, if people want to try and achieve a particular goal or overcome a personal issue, I think it would be more beneficial for them; to adopt a more proactive & practical approach. For example, different types of experiential learning might be one possibility? Such as Kolb (1984) or Honey & Mumford (1982).Money is God in manifestation, as freedom from want and limitation. But it must always be kept in circulation, put to right uses.” Básicamente me encontré con una obra que podría decir, es muy similar a los libros de auto ayuda. Solo había leído dos anteriormente en mi vida y por ello lo puedo comparar; además, son esa clase de libros que no suelen gustarme pero al no tener expectativas puestas en esta obra, no hubo como tal una decepción. Make this statement : ‘In divine mind, there is only completion…’ Perhaps you are in the habit of leaving things unfinished?”
