Laila thinks she knows the truth of what happened. But in telling Em what she’s seen, she stands to lose everything she holds dear. When days later one of the boys ends up dead. Laila thinks she knows who did it and explains it to the Police detective that comes to investigate. Pure, thrilling escapism. Whip-smart twists make this summer sizzler impossible to put down. The Other Guest is unforgettable’ Chris Whitaker As well as Laila’s obsession with paying close attention to the other holidaymakers, there are some really emotional strands to this story of which some could possibly be triggering (IVF, infertility etc.) but which I thought were written about sensitively. Laila and James are on holiday in Greece, their relationship is in need of some attention but unfortunately Laila seems to be more interested in watching other guests. Sitting by the pool her eyes are constantly watching the interactions of a family, so much in fact that when one of the family ends up dead she has information that would help the police investigation.I raced through this in a weekend. A taut, clever whodunnit, masterfully structured, beautifully written, with an intriguing cast and some heart-wrenching moral dilemmas. Brilliant. * Gilly Macmillan * The Other Guest is a fantastic sun-soaked thriller with a gripping mystery at its heart. It's the perfect read to take on holiday - but just keep one eye on those other guests!' Lucy Clarke When a body is found in a swimming pool Laila thinks she knows what happened and is keen to get involved in the investigation. Heidi graduated from Bournemouth University in 1997 with a BA (Hons) in Retail Management, and then enjoyed a career in Marketing before leaving in 2012 to focus on both bringing up her family and writing. This is one of those books that you start to read and right from the outset it becomes completely addictive.’

It was a great read and left me pondering what would I do in each pair of shoes. You’ll be stunned at times when you think you’ve got the picture and outcome sussed. The only reason is a sold 4 stars not 5 was that the police investigation could of been more realistic. There are things around that which would not happen and things missed that were obvious. Aside from that tiny thing it’s a great book to read on holiday (or maybe not a good idea) or anywhere really but be VERY careful who you get to know on your holiday!Heidi Perks is a Bournemouth based English author of mystery and contemporary books who possess a unique way of telling stories in papers. A graduate of Bournemouth University, Perks enjoyed a successful career in marketing before she decided to leave it all behind and concentrate on writing and raising a family. Heidi applied for an online creative writing course to sharpen her skills and get some tips to help her in her newfound career. Perks enjoys writing about relationships, and she doesn’t mind turning slightly dysfunctional characters into heroes. Sadly, this fell flat from the even onwards. I didn’t particularly like any of the characters in this book and it did not hold my attention enough.

The Other Guest

All across the USA, people are showing up dead. The deaths don't appear to be connected in any way until one particular death occurs and gets the Secretary of Defense's attention. He arranges for a task force to investigate. Heidi Perks has a gift for ratcheting up tension and suspense in her books, leaving this reader gasping for breath with the lights on in the middle of the night. Bravo!' Liz NugentI was very excited (maybe a bit too excited) to read The Other Guest so it’s a bit surprising that I found this an okay read, nothing wrong with it really, but there just wasn’t enough in it to get me really excited about it. I did enjoy the holiday setting in a lush 5* resort on a Greek island and Leila’s people watching. It felt oddly relatable although I don’t think – I hope not – I’m that much into it as Leila. I have to say I was pretty excited for this book and was reading it in pretty much the perfect setting but it just missed something for me hence why I’ve gone for the 4 rather than 5 stars. A great storyline and characters that intrigue you but I think I was expecting a bit more of a busier book if that makes sense. It’s set in an ultra luxury hotel but it was as if the characters mentioned and the staff were the only people staying at the resort whereas my nosy nature wanted to know more about more people and maybe have more potential suspects… the difference between fear and excitement is two inches, and what I once thought of as a flippant remark now feels closer” When Erin and Will start having couples therapy, they hope it will fix the rift that has appeared out of nowhere in their marriage.

Initially gripped, I had high hopes for this book, unfortunately, after the main event (which happened very early in the story), not a lot happened and sadly I found the ending quite disappointing. The cover does not fit, as the main women characters don’t ever enter the water to swim, to my knowledge; title seems odd, maybe be -s is missing but maybe it’s just an ill fitting title which makes little to no sense in connection to this book. And lastly, a thriller this was not. Heidi Perks has a gift for ratcheting up tension and suspense in her books, leaving this reader gasping for breath with the lights on in the middle of the night. Bravo!’ Liz Nugent When they arrive at the 5* hotel they meet a couple who has two teenage sons. Laila likes people watching and spends most of her time watching the couple and their two sons. Her husband thinks she is jealous as they have two kids, and she has none. But instead of them both rekindling their relationship and what else as she got to do when her husband James goes off on trips on his own leaving his wife behind.Set in a Greek luxurious resort The Other Guest tells the story of Laila and James who go on holiday to rekindle their relationship and relax after the strain of the IVF treatment that they had been undergoing. People-watcher Laila sees something when, partway through the holiday, tragedy strikes and it is unclear who is responsible. As Laila sits by the pool she finds herself inexplicably drawn to the other family staying in their resort. Then Erin is brought into hospital in a critical condition following a hit-and-run accident. Now everyone is desperate to unravel the truth. To say it's categorised as a thriller, I didn't find it very thrilling - excuse the pun. It's a bit mysterious maybe but honestly, all that build up for, in my opinion, not a fantastic ending. I was really waiting for some big plot twist or a seriously dramatic turn of events. Sadly, it never came.
