About this deal

The a7 II retains the 3" tilting LCD of its predecessor, but with an increase in resolution. It offers 1.23 millions dots in a 3:2 aspect ratio, and can be tilted upward 107 degrees and downward 41 degrees. The electronic viewfinder also remains unchanged, and uses 2.3 million dots for 100% accuracy and .71x magnification. It is extremely bright and detailed. The a7R II has more pixels on its sensor than the a7S II, hence the a7S II pixels can be larger and capture more light resulting in better lowlight performance. The ISO sensitivity range of the Sony a7r ii camera is 100-25600, and you can adjust this sensitivity range to 50-102400. Another side, the Sony a7s ii’s ISO range is 100-102400, and this range can be expanded to 50-409600. So, if you prefer to take photos in low light, then the Sony a7s ii would be better but make sure you know the process of adjusting the ISO range. Otherwise, if you want a camera for regular use, then the Sony a7r ii would be good enough. Image Processor and Continuous shooting speed Dynamic range is important for us filmmakers, it gives us the ability to capture high contrast scenes without over or underexposure, highlights and shadows are saved resulting in an organic, filmic look and in theory gives us more leeway in post production.

The shutter button has also moved from the top of the camera body, to the top of the grip itself, and is now angled slightly downward. Its diameter has been increased slightly over that of the original a7. Given most of my uses for the A7S or A7SII would be with it in mounted configuration (tripod or otherwise), I'm guessing the multi-plane stabilization isn't all that important, and that my question really comes down to any differences in sensor or software between the two cameras. Maybe Sony will keep the A7SII up-to-date longer than the A7S with new firmware?Like the a7S, the a7 II has the ability to record in the XAVC S codec, which offers a 50MBps bit rate at 1080/60p (as well as 1080/30p and 1080/24p). Recording in AVCHD and MP4 also remain an option. Sony has also increased the size of the buttons on the A7S III and added a big record button above the grip, in place of one of the custom buttons. Overall, it's not a complete reinvention of the A7S II's design, but it is far more refined and user-friendly for videographers –particularly when you consider the following three differences between the cameras... 4. Viewfinder We use a a DSC labs XYLA-21 transmissive chart and IMATEST evaluation software with a crisp Zeiss 50mm CP2 T/2.1 makro lens. Sony’s latest model can also shoot in much lower native ISOs when filming in Slog3. Previously, the A7S II was unable to go lower than 1600 ISO in log (3200 ISO for the original A7S), but the 3rd time was the charm for Sony – the A7SIII can be lowered to 160 ISO in Slog3.

The Sony a7 II is the fourth full frame ILC to feature in-camera image stabilization, (the three before it were the Sony a900, a850 and a99). The IS system in the a7 II works by compensating for movements along 5 different axis, X and Y as well as pitch, yaw and roll. Surprisingly the a7R II doesn’t hold up so bad in lowlight at all. It can almost match the a7S II detail in low ISO modes. What I can always see is the a7S II having better noise performance. The image is cleaner. Anyway, with a little bit of noise the a7R II looks ok up until ISO 12,800 and does resolve details in the shadow areas. They come with a 1.3cm XGA OLED (0.5 type) electronic viewfinder, which provides you a clear view of the object with fine details before capturing it. Note: Many readers commented on the overheating issues they experienced with this camera. Apparently some units are shutting down during long takes in warm environments. Keep that in mind when you make your buying decision. But there is one thing that makes decision-making diffcult: When I'm looking now at your latest review of the Samsung NX1, I could think that this is probably the right camera for me. Gold award.Sony has made a number of small design improvements to the A7S III, which collectively bring it in line with the very similar Sony A7R IV. Scene Modes: Portrait, Landscape, Macro, Sports Action, Sunset, Night Portrait, Night Scene, Hand-held Twilight, Anti Motion Blur; Sweep Panorama; Movie / High Frame Rate; Picture Effect: Posterization (Color, B/W), Pop Color, Retro Photo, Partial Color (R, G, B, Y), High Contrast Monochrome, Toy Camera, Soft Highkey, Soft Focus, HDR Painting, Rich-tone Monochrome, Miniature, Watercolor, Illustration; Dynamic Range Optimizer (Auto/Level (1-5)), Auto High Dynamic Range: Auto Exposure Difference, Exposure Difference Level (1.0-6.0 EV, 1.0 EV step) The dynamic range on a7S and a7S II was identical in Slog2. The a7R II could surprise us though as it has a different sensor.

The maximum bitrate is 280Mbps with XAVC S or XAVC HS, and 500Mbps with XAVC S-I. The A7S II goes up to 100Mbps by comparison.

It performs better in that the images are cleaner, more colorful, and more accurate than the original but if you’re gaging it at just ISO sensitivity it is about the same. has a 1.1x crop.
