Description

Warhawk:The Warhawk is the biggest included Clan mech (though not the most expensive, the Timber Wolf T takes that trophy). This mech comes with the C and T variants, with the C doing consistent damage out to long range (think of it like two Pouncer Prime’s stapled together), and the T being a closer ranged brawler that can apply heat to the target like the Pouncer T. Inner Sphere Mechs

The fourth edition redesigned the rulebook again. Calling itself 'BT4', it states that the "current" year of the BattleTech universe is 3058, while BT4 is set in 3049. It also makes reference to the Rules Levels previously seen in CityTech, Second Edition, and states that the technology described in the BT4 game is Level 1, whereas Level 2 includes the technology available in 3058. Three of the previous edition's four scenarios ("Final Exam", "Trial by Fire", and "Divide and Conquer") were included in the rulebook, with small changes; most importantly, the original (now Unseen) 'Mechs in these scenarios were exchanged for different 'Mechs from BT4's new lineup. The Dark Age period represents a jump forward in time of some five decades from the end of the Word of Blake Jihad in 3081. The following documents can be used to catch up on the events, personalities and changes of the new setting. Touring the Stars In 2022 CGL released a second edition of its BattleTech Beginner Box in connection with a variety of mercenary themed products. This edition replaced the Wolverine plastic miniature with a Vindicator plastic miniature. (The Wolverine plastic miniature was also included in BattleTech: A Game of Armored Combat, so this change removed that overlap.) This product has also been marketed as BattleTech Beginner Box (Vindicator Edition). The first product to be named "BattleTech", the BattleTech, Second Edition boxed set is generally regarded as the quintessential BattleTech product. It kept the same FASA product number as Battledroids (1604).

Before we get too far into this, I want to thank Catalyst Game Labs for sending over a copy of this box for us to review.

The third edition of the boxed set, released by FASA in 1992, replaced the paper cutout playing pieces with plastic miniatures. One was provided for each of the fourteen standard 'Mechs from the second edition. The new edition also contained a booklet with prefilled record sheets for these fourteen 'Mechs. The Merlin and Chameleon made no appearance. The core of this game is the mechs, and while you probably could play Alpha Strike using tokens, we’re buying this box to play with the minis. Fortunately, they are pretty good. I love the sculpts, particularly the new Wraith, and the updated variant mechs look great (the posing on the Fire Moth in particular is a big glow-up). The only let-down is that they’re PVC rather than the HIPS you’d get with a GW model, and have softer details and bigger mold lines. It’s nothing you can’t work around, and the mechs do look good, but I’d love to see these same original sculpts cast in higher quality. A gazeteer of the worlds that compose the Republic. Nova : A classic Clan mech, both the Nova Prime and T variants fill the same role of being a skirmisher. A little slower but more durable than the Pouncer, it does substantially more damage. The Prime can overheat for astounding damage (tied for the most of any mech in the box), and the T does a little more damage on base without the ability to overheat. Pouncer: New in plastic, the Pouncer is on the light side of medium mechs with decent movement and durability. The Prime variant is a sniper, able to do three damage out to long range, while the T variant has to get closer but can then apply heat to the target.

Wraith: The second mech completely new to plastic, the Wraith is broadly a better Phoenix Hawk. While they don’t have any ability to do damage at long range, they’re faster and more durable. The TR5 variant can run 2″ further than the TR1. While it has no in-game effect, it also has an absolutely fantastic model. BattleTech is the world’s greatest armored combat game. In Alpha Strike, you take command of large-scale engagements, fueled by tabletop miniatures gameplay designed for the modern wargamer. Inside is everything you need to start tossing dice and moving miniatures on your game table. Together with the game rules, the 2022 starter box provides 13 high-quality, fully assembled and unpainted miniatures together with their unit and pilot cards. Two of these Mechs have been fully redesigned (Wraith and Pouncer) while other seven are provided as new variants in new poses. It’s time to come together for one of our own. To assist her family, we are once again dedicating profit from this month’s Premium BattleMech Miniature to her health care expenses.

For a millennia, mankind has waged wars across thousands of worlds in human-occupied space. The Great Houses. The Clans. The Periphery. A myriad of star empires claiming ascendance, as others wane or fall. They marshal MechWarrior who owe them fealty, each one the master of a towering avatar of destruction: the BattleMech. You are given command of these modern-day knights, dropped onto a battlefield: use your wits and acumen to bring victory or end up a casualty on a forgotten world. The BattleTech Introductory Box Set was published in 2014 with miniatures for the standard group of 24 'Mechs that had been in several prior box sets. The molds and sculpts were revised from those used for the Classic BattleTech Introductory Box Set and 25th Anniversary Introductory Box Set. Also a different plastic and improved molding process was used. The 2014 BattleTech Introductory Box Set also included two premium quality plastic miniatures: a Timber Wolf (Mad Cat) and a BattleMaster BLR-4S from Project Phoenix. These replaced the Thor and Loki that were included in the 25th Anniversary Introductory Box Set. These two came on dedicated sprues and required assembly, unlike the base 24 models they accompanied. These two form a separate line and are described in the section 'Separate Premium Quality Plastic Miniatures'. The 25th Anniversary Introductory Box Set, published in 2011 and reprinted in 2012, included the same 24 Inner Sphere 'Mechs as the Classic BattleTech Introductory Box Set, plus two higher quality plastic Clan 'Mechs: a Summoner (Thor) and a Hellbringer (Loki). These latter two 'Mechs are described in the section 'Separate Premium Quality Plastic Miniatures'.

This tournament offers players the opportunity to wage honorable battle to be one of the 25 Bloodnamed warriors sharing in the legacy of one of the Clan’s founders. Genetically engineered and bred for centuries for honor and glory, Clan warriors lust for a Bloodname for years and many never make the cut. Can you win the Trial of Bloodright? The CityTech box contained a slew of cutout counters for various tanks, infantry units and buildings, and two (identical) mapsheets that were different from the previous BattleTech mapsheets. The Battledroids included with this first set as cutout playing pieces were the Stinger, Shadow Hawk, Archer, Griffin, Warhammer, Marauder, Crusader, Wasp, and Rifleman. All of these would later become Unseen. Rubber stands were included for the cutouts. In addition, the Merlin featured in the rulebook as a practical example for the construction rules, but it had no associated picture or cutout.
