About this deal

Poor game admins, always trying to stay one step ahead of Maple! And she’s always trying to figure out new ways to make things interesting. stakes at all! This anime was recommended by a friend as one of the most pointless anime ever made. After watching it, I have to agree. Bofuri: I Don't Want to Get Hurt, so I'll Max Out My Defense., Vol. 4". Urged on by her friend, Kaede Honjō begins playing the VR MMORPG NewWorld Online under the name Maple. Not wanting to get hurt, Maple opts to be a shield user with maxed-out defense stats, and continues putting every status point she earns in the game into increasing only her defense level. As a result, she is left with slow foot speed and no magic, but her high defense allows her to endure most hits without taking any damage. This, along with her basic-level creative thinking, allows for her to make unexpected accomplishments in the game, its quests and events. By doing this, she ends up earning all kinds of equally unexpected skills and becomes one of the strongest players in the game.We have seen these scenes in one form or another in many isekai already. It would be boring to watch these with bofuri cast. Starting in May 2018, illustrator Jiro Oimoto began adapting the story into the BOFURI manga series. Serialized in Kadokawa Shoten’s Monthly Comp Ace magazine, the BOFURI manga was up to Volume 6 as of August 26, 2022. In the web novel, the fight between Payne and Maple started in Chapter 118. Chapter 122 was when Atrocity Maple “helped” Mii and the Flame Emperors. The next several chapters detailed how multi-Mapzilla stomped all over the guild event. The Maple Tree celebration with the other guilds took place in Chapter 127. Pretty good follow up to season 1. It quite often felt a bit sparse, often not knowing what was going on with the action. Its action was definitely worse than season 1's, however the story was just as good, or even better. With such a large cast, they managed to give everyone a reasonable amount of screen time and found interesting methods of keeping each character important to the plot. If you compare it to season 1 which was just as good as this, but with less flaws. Season 2 is worse than season 1, but that does not mean season 2 is bad, which And to add to all of this, the 2nd season also fails us in terms of animation and action sequences as it lowers them by almost 10 folds and you can't help but wonder when will all this be over. And while it may have a solid storyline for future seasons, I can say that if this is what's getting delivered, it is better to probably skip it.

BOFURI: I Don’t Want to Get Hurt, so I’ll Max Out My Defense.

The overpowerdness of characters becomes boring as they are never challenged and the quirkiness and uniqness of new skills has For a new game event, Maple proposes going it alone with two other friends besides Sally. Maple wants to give Sally a chance to enjoy the earlier levels. Besides being separated from her usual ally, Maple also makes things interesting by choosing the highest difficulty! In season two, they rush frantically from level to level, with level four (the Japanese shinto-themed one) barely lasting for longer than a single episode, with the boss to get to level 5 treated like an absolute joke and defeated off-screen. Despite the huge increase in art and animation quality, the framing and choreography of the fights feels much more plain than what I'd come to expect from season one. If there's one piece of advice I've give for a hypothetical Season 3, it'd be to slow the hell down and let the characters/events breathe in the narrative. Perhaps it was COVID? Perhaps the producer felt that the production schedule needed more time? Perhaps there were unexpected scheduling conflicts with other projects? We don’t know the real reason although it’s probably best that it was delayed to keep up the animation quality level. BOFURI manga, light novel series compared to the anime When there are fights, the fight scenes well animated, and the characters come up with creative ways to overcome challenges. It's not just "I yell really loudly for a long time, so I can become stronger"

Third - our glorious hero needs to win more fights, so more fighting scenes, yay! They all look the same though, as no matter the enemy, all of the fights end after a character who has a fight casts the exact same set of skills. While it is how MMOs work, we aren't really playing one, you know. And replacing exploration and friendly banter of S1 with more of the same fights that still are cleared from the first try feels so dull that I can't help but wonder if they fired the only guy who knew what he was doing. Mynavi News (in Japanese). March 21, 2020. Archived from the original on March 21, 2021 . Retrieved July 11, 2021. Funimation had previously licensed the series. [60] [61] Following Sony's acquisition of Crunchyroll, the series was moved to Crunchyroll. [62] Muse Communication streamed the series on its Muse Asia YouTube channel in Southeast Asia and South Asia. [63] In October 2020, an official English translation of the BOFURI light novels was announced by Yen Press. The English books were up to Volume 8 as of February 21, 2023. The other pitfall other action anime and film fail in is the suddenness of failure. Many good actions of all forms of film understand to have your characters lose to build character and relatability. These however, do a bad job of this. It often feels either inevitable or surprising for these characters to lose. What I mean by this is that main characters will often be shown to be either much stronger or weaker than their contemporaries making it feel either like a robbery for the character to lose, or something you were just waiting for, with no suspense. Bofuri does a good thing called 'weaknesses'. Each character has a flaw which is shown and worked around and when the characters you're rooting for actually lose, or simply not win (not place first or something similar), or even get impeded, it was clear to the audience that these were real threats from the beginning. With each encounter every action which is not intended to be a surprise can be followed by the audience. Furthermore, a not insignificant amount of the non-action plot revolves around managing these flaws and hiding them from potential rivals and enemies, making them feel important.
