He also gave babysitting tips alongside a developmental expert in 2005 in the episode of Teens Kids Show. Not only that Clash gets to puppeteer Elmo, but he also greatly influenced the studio and provided them with his own vision of what kind of character he should be. Clash thought that Elmo should be a kind and caring character, and since he gave the energy and life to this puppet from the first day, he remained the main voice actor all the way to 2012. [63]In July 2013, the three cases against Clash were dismissed because it was ruled that the claims were made more than six years after each man reasonably should have become aware of Clash's alleged violations during the three years after each turned 18. Clash's lawyers expressed his hope that the ruling would allow him to restore his personal and professional life. [54] Lawyers for the plaintiffs appealed the ruling, alleging that the psychological effects of the abuse were not fully realized until 2012. In April 2014, the decision to dismiss the three lawsuits was upheld by the U.S. Court of Appeals. [55] Months after the other alleged victims made legal accusations, Stephens filed a lawsuit in Pennsylvania against Clash, [56] but it was ultimately dismissed in June 2014 because the statute of limitations had passed. [57] Filmography [ edit ] Year He was the first recipient of the 'Miss Jean' Worthley Award for Service to Families and Children given by Maryland Public Television on June 9, 2007. [62] During 2011, there were eight or nine different Elmo puppets on the set at all times. Only one Elmo was with rods, and this one was puppeteered by Kevin Clash and secondary puppeteers. There was also a remote control Elmo puppet and another puppet for the blue screen. Fans that complained about Elmo’s status blamed him for the permanent departure of Kermit the Frog from Sesame Street. They also thought that Elmo referring to himself in the third person was bad for children because they thought this type of expression taught them inappropriate English. Elmo Puppets and Costumes Clash developed an interest in puppetry at an early age and, in his teen years, performed for local television children's shows in his hometown of Baltimore, Maryland. He joined the cast of Captain Kangaroo in the early 1980s and began performing on Sesame Street in 1984. He was the fifth puppeteer to perform Elmo, who became his signature character, and he also served as an executive producer and director for the show. Clash worked in various productions with The Jim Henson Company and occasionally on other projects. Clash's autobiography, My Life as a Furry Red Monster, was published in 2006; he was later the subject of the documentary Being Elmo: A Puppeteer's Journey (2011).

The origins of Elmo Puppet are best described by Nancy Sans, who was the staff writer for Sesame Street. She claims that there was an extra red puppet just lying around, and the production decided to give him a personality and create an entirely new character. Elmo’s character was portrayed by Jerry Nelson between 1980 to 1981, and later on, Richard Hunt took that job over from 1984 to 1985. During the last year that Richard Hunt portrayed Elmo, he got very frustrated, and he squeezed and threw the puppet at Kevin Clash, who afterward got the job and voiced Elmo for the longest period to this day.
