Overall picture quality is very good, although unusually for a Fujifilm camera I found the colours in standard mode to be a bit under-saturated, and the auto white balance produced a somewhat cold appearance in bright sunlight.

The modifications to the FinePix S5700 mean it is easier to use than anything that has gone before. It will be a faithful companion for any and every event, from nights out or the kids’ school play or sports day, right through to countryside walks and family holidays. It’s the ultimate camera for every occasion and perfect for users who always want a camera to hand, but prefer to get creative, not technical, with their photography. Couple this with good to above-average imaging results and excellent value for money, and this capable camera is a tempting prospect for those looking for an affordable SLR-style digital super zoom. One of the primary objectives FujiFilm set out to achieve in this series was to make the camera appealing to SLR users looking for an affordable and versatile digital alternative. They've achieved this, not just in the shape and build of the camera housing, but also in the layout of the controls. FujiFilm has always scored highly when it comes to intuitive design and the S5600 is no exception. Overall, I've found that the Finepix S5600 takes beautiful portraits and can produce very nice macro shots. However, shots taken at medium and long range are not as sharp as they could be and at times the standard colour setting produces results that appear a little drab, although a chrome setting is provided and produces very vivid colours. The sharpness issue is easily corrected: by loading images into The Gimp and adding a slight sharpening filter I've managed to produce some striking landscape shots. This is just the digital equivalent of retouching negatives so I don't count this as cheating. In fact, learning how to Photoshop your pictures should be considered part and parcel of learning more about photography in the digital age. FUJIFILM MyFinePix Studio also has a variety of editing features to enhance the quality of digital photos. It has an auto-enhancement feature, which automatically adjusts the brightness, contrast, and color of a photo. It also has a red-eye reduction feature, which helps to reduce the appearance of red-eye in photos. Additionally, it has a variety of filters, which can be used to create unique effects. Overall

Unusually for a Fujifilm camera, colours are slightly under-saturated in the standard shooting mode, although the level of detail is very good. An enhanced ergonomic design of even smaller proportions, which make the camera portable and easy to hold in one hand, whilst retaining its powerful 10x optical zoom. MyFinePix Studio contains a variety of features to help you manage and organize your photos. You use some of the tools to create albums to store and organize your photos, or use the tagging system to label and categorize your images. It also provides a range of filters and editing tools to help you fine-tune your photos and videos. New to the S5600 is an Anti-Blur mode, which the company asserts is more effective than image stabilization technology found on other cameras. It works by using the onboard image processor to increase the shutter speed in poor light by boosting the ISO from 64 up to 1,600. The Natural Light exposure mode also uses the camera's processor to produce low noise images using high ISO settings in low light situations when flash cannot be used. Complete with an unrivalled sensitivity range from ISO 64 to ISO 1600, the camera makes it possible to achieve crisp photographs with minimal noise, even in very low light conditions. The Anti-Blur Mode, which exploits the camera’s exceptional ISO capabilities, reduces blurring caused by movement of the user, as well as movement blur caused by the subject, making it much more effective than image stabilisation technology alone. At the lowest ISO setting the image quality is superb, with lots of fine detail, zero image noise and excellent colour and contrast.

The S5600 has an ISO range from 64 to 1600. I've found that pictures taken at ISO400 are still very acceptable, although noise levels at ISO levels 800 and 1600 mean that you should reserve these settings for occasions when it's better to have even a noisy picture than no picture at all. The bottom line here is that you'd need to spend several hundred pounds on a DSLR to obtain noise-free images at these ISO levels, so I don't see this as a problem or flaw. Similarly, the 10x zoom is very useful and although some purple fringing appears at full zoom (under certain lighting conditions) the resulting images are by no means spoiled. The camera's lens housing is threaded to permit the fitting of after-market lenses, so you can extend the S5600's abilities without spending hundreds more for a camera with 20x zoom and a super-macro feature. While the camera doesn't really offer any significant advantage in terms of wide-angle photography, the 370mm focal length means you can get closer to out-of-reach subjects such as wildlife or sporting events. while this was taken on the high-saturation “chrome” setting. The colours are more saturated, especially the greens.
