The U8QF has a JBL Audio sound system based on stereo speakers and 20W of amplification. It also supports Dolby Atmos, with internal decoding built-in and an immersive experience created through the application of psychoacoustic processing.

Shadow detail (that’s detail in the darkest parts of an image) is not the U8Q’s strongest suit. A whirl through The Dark Knight Rises and the TV can’t lift all the detail from the Batman suit. Raise the brightness and there’s more to be found, but there’s not much room to play with. A point up is all that’s needed, but anything more and scenes look washed out. It's alsoan excellent TV forgaming due to its very goodmotion handling, so there's very little blur behind fast-moving objects. It has HDMI 2.1 bandwidth on two of its HDMI ports, meaning it can take full advantage of the Xbox Series X and PS5 consoles and even high-end PCs with up to 4k @ 144Hz support. Finally, it has low input lag and supports every variable refresh rate (VRR)technology, ensuring a responsive, nearly tear-free gaming experience. Motion was decent on the U8QF with no noticeable induced judder with 24fps material when Ultra Smooth Motion was switched off and applying pulldown. We also noted some obvious motion trailing behind objects and other artefacts with some fast-moving material. When using the Ultra Smooth Motion settings you see soap opera effect from the interpolation straight away and, as you apply higher settings, image artefactssuch as false edges, trailing edges and image break up around fast-moving objects become much more noticeable. There are custom controls for Blur and Judder which you can experiment with for sports or other video content with fast movement, but for film and drama, we recommend switching it to off.

High Contrast and Wide Colors

The Hisense U8QF comes with plenty of features but compared to an LG or Samsung it is more limited in scope. Despite its premium status, we’re still hovering around the value-added area here. Smart Services are intended for use by persons sixteen (16) years of age or older. If you are not at least sixteen (16) years of age or older or are legally, or otherwise, restricted from using the Smart Services, please discontinue using the Smart Services immediately. All picture and sound adjustments (aside from volume and mute) must be accessed from their repective setup menus. On the picture side, along with local dimming there are advanced settings to tweak gamma and white balance, as well as a full color management system, although those adjustments are best left to calibration professionals. Regular viewers interested in getting the best picture quality for movies would do well to start with Filmmaker mode, and any adjustments you make there can also be applied to the set’s other inputs. All forms of HDR are supported in HDR10, HLG, HDR10+ and Dolby Vision. Hisense says the panel can achieve a peak brightness of 1000 nits, but I’d imagine it’s less than that figure. Nevertheless, there’s a brightness and punchiness to 4K HDR sources that gives a good impression of what HDR can do. Gaming is also well catered for with two HDMI 2.1 inputs compatible with 4K/120, VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) and ALLM (Auto Low Latency Mode).

Performance

The U8Q does not factor in HDMI 2.1, so remove VRR, ALLM, HFR (4K@120Hz) and eARC from the equation. There are no buzz-worthy modes in Filmmaker Mode or Dolby Vision IQ either, so if you’re not concerned by any of those features here’s what the U8Q has to offer. If you have a 4K player and discs capable of both HDR10+/Dolby Vision, I’d say the U8Q is better suited to the latter. Colours are more on point, as are textures, and the tonally its darker, which in Doctor Sleep makes for a more convincing picture. Dolby Vision Bright and Dark modes are available alongside a custom version. Content” means all audio and visual elements and ideas offered by us or third parties, including but not limited to, data, movies, videos, photographs, software, games, designs, likenesses, artwork, images, music, sound, information and other materials, tangible and intangible, including derivative works, on all media and formats, existing or in future. The remote is a slim effort but too compact for my liking. Buttons are smushed close together and if you have sizeable digits such as myself, you’ll jab at the wrong button with regularity. It’s also not the most responsive, which doesn’t help. Netflix, Prime Video, Rakuten TV, YouTube and Freeview Play have dedicated buttons, so you can hotfoot to the service you fancy. Hisense U8Q features — Covers the basics for picture and gaming

To learn about how Hisense protects and handles your Personal Data and other information when you use the Smart Services, visit our Data Protection Policy (available at your Device first setup process or go to “Home” screen, select “Settings”, select “Support”). By and large the Hisense U8Q is an attractive-looking set. Available in 55- and 65-inch models, the bezel is unobtrusive, and the build quality is what I’d call robust. From the V-shaped pedestal – which unless you have a compact soundbar does restrict placement of sound systems in front of the TV – to the fetching material that covers the integrated front-firing speakers, the U8Q is a well put-together set. We may revise and update this EULA from time to time in our sole discretion. All changes will be posted at your Device or through update with reasonable period before they become effective. They deemed to be accepted by you unless you have notified us of your refusal within the above-mentioned period. In case of refusal you can terminate the EULA with immediate effect. In all other cases the updated EULA applies to all access to and use of the Device and the Smart Services thereafter. Google Assistant works well to command things like specific volume adjustments (Hey Google, reduce volume to 50%), content searches (show me 1980s horror films I can watch for free), and even input selection (switch to Blu-ray player input). And while Google is definitely pushing movies you can watch free (with ads, of course) on its own YouTube channel (these show up in a big window at the top of the TV interface), the general content recommendations seemed to sync up pretty well, revealing, for better or worse, a high level of familiarity. With 4K Blu-ray content the Hisense stretches its legs. It doesn’t have a native 10-bit panel commonly used for HDR, instead employing 8-bit + FRC– a form of dithering that cycles between different colours with each new frame to match the colour range of a 10-bit panel – and results are pretty good. One thing to add is the Hisense U8Q doesn’t seem to automatically switch into Enhanced mode when it detects a device that can do 4K/60Hz or 4.4.4, 4.2.2, 4.2.0 chroma sampling. Head into the menu settings for whichever HDMI port the device is connected to and switch it on.
