And you may find some tools more effective than others. What you respond to best is for you to find out what will be a journey of self-discovery. What it all comes down to in losing weight, fat, getting healthier, lowering your BMI etc is just going on a calorie deficit diet. More calories out than in will make you lose weight, it's really that simple. It’s the same with calories, why cut your calories by an unsustainable 50 per cent, when you could cut them by 15 per cent and gradually lose weight without starving yourself and grabbing too many high calorie foods here and there. The key to a successful and sustainable calorie deficit though, is to not cut your calories so drastically that you feel like you’re on a restrictive diet, because that’s no fun. What is the point in taking the elevator at work to then pull yourself out of bed at 5am to walk on a treadmill for an hour? That isn’t a good deal. Instead stay in bed and focus on becoming more active during your day to day life.

Motivating, inspiring and the type of book that will make you question your own quest for success and the lengths you’re prepared to go to to live a happy and fulfilled life – whatever that looks like to you – Not a Diet Book should be required reading for everyone who needs incentive, stimulus and inspiration to better themselves as the start of a new decade approaches. Readers will finish Not a Diet Book, equiped with the knowledge they need to not only embrace a healthier and more balanced relationship with food and exercise, but too with the tools for success to excel in all areas of their life. It’s easy to say “oh but it’s easy for him..” “he doesn’t have the responsibilities I have”. That may be true but if you want something to change bad enough, you’ll make it happen. There are ways around everything. Before qualifying as a personal trainer in 2014, James worked in the corporate world and like many others with an interest in health fitness, he too was confused by all the misinformation that surrounded the fitness world. When we get enough quality sleep, we make better decisions and often times this means making correct food choices. But when sleep deprivation impairs our cognitive abilities, things go sideways. We end up eating all sorts of sugary and high-fat foods. Cortisol and melatonin are your sleep hormones However, if someone was to say to me ‘I can go to the gym five times a week at lunchtimes’ then I would say that in addition to the compound exercises, you can have a little fun and spend extra time training your glutes or your calves (if you’re a dude), but it isn’t totally necessary. TEF stands for thermic effect of food which is the number of calories burned by processing food for use and storage. Dietary fat is very easy to process and has very little thermic effect, while protein is harder to process and has a much larger thermic effect.

Because that's what it's all about, right? Maintenance. Can you maintain that Low/No-Carb diet forever? Can you maintain that uber-restrictive clean eating plan? Or that juice fast/skinny coffee/coffee with butter/fat-blast lollipop/whatever diet? I sure the hell couldn't. I can't maintain even the CONCEPT of those kinds of insane restrictions long term. One of the first things that I learned from James via his videos was this: You don't need a diet. You HAVE a diet. You just need to make it work for you. And that's where the education that he provides comes in... to learn what your daily energy expenditure and calorie needs look like, and then work with those numbers to create a sensible, reasonable deficit that will result in losing fat. Pound for pound they weight the same. A better statement would be muscle occupies a smaller space than fat. So, it’s possible some people weight more even if they appear smaller than others. And yes, that also explains the reason we start to look better while the readings on scale stay almost the same. Sadly, there’s no surefire way to measure bodyfat percentage When you get a bit skint you’ll announce to your mates that for the next two weeks you’re not going out because you need to balance your books. Then once you’ve done that you’re up for a night out again – tequila, pizza, kebabs – you know the drill. Now though you get, ‘who is going downstairs to meet the delivery guy then?’ I mean come on, all you have to do is walk to your front door and even that’s too much of an effort for some people.I gave the Insanity workout a go and jumped around my living room everyday for two months. I wore multiple layers to rugby training thinking that if I sweat more I would burn more calories, but I still wasn’t losing any weight, so then I decided to blame my ‘slow’ metabolism.

But what I didn’t realise, was that the simple reason I wasn’t dropping the pounds was probably because of the ‘Two for Tuesday’s’ Dominos Pizza I was nailing every week and the fact that I was living off sausage rolls from Tesco, basically I was consuming too many calories. I'm going to recommend this book to everyone - gym rats like me as well as everyone else. Preventing obesity and disease should be a social goal. First off he starts the book by telling you off. Like calm the F down dude I just bought your book don't have a go at me.If you haven’t walked the walk then why are you talking the talk? Don’t trust them. Related Healthista Content: Going to the gym to burn calories isn’t necessary, it’s just an added bonus. If you add going to the gym to an already very active lifestyle, that’s the icing on the cake with a cherry on top. If you don’t want to go to the gym then don’t, some people like a plain Victoria sponge cake and that’s absolutely fine. #5 Don’t feel bad if you can only get to the gym once or twice a week If someone joins my online programme and in three months they feel like they never need to buy into the fitness industry again – I would be thrilled.

Not a Diet Book: The Must-Have Fitness Book From the Wo…

James Smith has already changed thousands of lives with his international phenomenon Not A Diet Book. Are you ready to change yours? Ignore Bod Pod, underwater submersion, body scanners and calipers (aka having your fat pinched). What’s wrong with taking a simple photograph? A lot of people get caught up in seeing who can be the most successful in their line of work, but ultimately you don’t always need to be the best paid in the business, you just want to have the best lifestyle in the business.Unfortunately, the current state of the fitness industry is far from the utopia. It’s in dire straits and the worst thing is that it’s not fully known by the public, many of whom are handing over large percentages of their disposable income to expensive gym memberships, diet plans, supplements, unsustainable diet fads and miracle fat-loss drinks. Quite possibly one of the worst “things” (book would be too generous) that I have ever read. I could not even finish it. Well done Linda you’ve lost one per cent body fat, you may not have noticed you’ve lost that one per cent that but it’s another reason to sign up to our expensive programme for another 12 weeks’. I tried a low-carb diet for a year thinking carbs would kill me. Then I was worried sweeteners could cause cancer so I never consumed any diet drinks. It’s usually photos that cause people to feel deflated, I would know because it’s happened to me too. People will see a photo of themselves and realise they need to sort their s**t out. Why should being told your body fat percentage motivate you any more than seeing a picture of yourself?
