It will be a few years before this totally gets outclassed. I think the Mars 4 will be a slight upgrade, but not the big jump in quality we have seen from the Mars 2 to the Mars 3. Overall, I think the market is settling on 4k being entry-level and 8k being premium for these smaller-class printers.

There was, however, a change in the build volume. The Mars 3 Pro has a build volume of 143 x 90 x 175 mm, which shows an increase of 10 mm in the Z-axis over the earlier Mars 3 and provides enough space to print models and even sizable batches. The integrated air filter worked very well during testing for the review, and it is hard to imagine this feature not becoming standard on other printers in this price range. Interestingly enough, Elegoo included an air filter on an older machine (the Mars 2 Pro) but removed it with the release of the Mars 3, only to include it again with the Mars 3 Pro. The air filter on the previous generation Mars 2 Pro was integrated into the frame, so removing it to change the charcoal filter was a laborious and difficult process. The Elegoo Mars 3 Pro ships with a copy of the popular slicer app Chitubox loaded on the USB drive, but the Mars 3 Pro is also compatible with Lychee Slicer and other slicer apps. Chitubox is an easy-to-use app that is capable of hollowing a model, generating support, and adding drain holes to allow any trapped uncured resin to escape. I used Printed Obsession’s Doom Slayer model and oriented it to print with no support material touching the front of the model, and the total print preparation time was under 5 minutes. And that small cheap 4k screen will produce a better quality model than a big 4k screen with a bigger build bed. My fully dialled in Mars 3 Pro takes between 2.5 – 4.5 hours to print 32mm miniatures at a 0.035 layer height and with conservative settings tuned for getting consistent successful prints. It all depends on how big the tallest point is. Me in full protective gear, but also slightly miffed that I paid more for my Mars 2 Pro a year ago than I can get a Mars 3 Pro for today.
