Misfits is a very popular brand overseas, and they’re doing their best to break into the US market now as well. Misfits launched its Protein Cereal in two flavors, Chocolate and Chocolate Cinnamon, which we snapped up following their launch to see how they measure up against the many other high-protein cereals on the market. There is a growing mountain of functional products in the cereal format, and many of them are incredibly on point and enjoyable, so Misfits Protein Cereal has its work cut out for it. Review It had been created to target “mainly millennials and gen Z” shoppers who loved cereal but were “concerned about their health and what they consume”, the brand added. When I measured out a serving, I did realize that 40g of cereal is rather small. While that’s a typical serving size for cereal, since this one is so dense and compact, that 40g equates to very little volume.

If you’re unfamiliar with Misfits, they started selling these plant-based protein bars in 2020, and they’ve exploded onto the scene with very high praise.

Extremely disappointed by this company's recent service. I have been a long and loyal customer. As a vegan these bars are ideal for me to get a protein hit. When you open the box, it smells like you just stepped into a bakery where all they bake are chocolate donuts topped with chocolate frosting. I’ve been reviewing protein bars long enough to know that the bars won’t actually look like that, but that is just too enticing to pass up. Cereals like Weetabix and All Bran are wheat-based, which may seem like a healthy option, but wheat can irritate the gut and cause bloating. These big-brand cereals also all contain sugar. At the same time, wheat bran contains phytic acid (a natural substance found in wheat), which can prevent the absorption of certain nutrients such as calcium, magnesium, zinc and iron. LOW SUGAR, LOW CALORIES - Each 40g serving has less than 1g of sugar and with 150 calories per serving it is low in calories. No artificial flavours, colours or preservatives. This is a chocolate cereal without the guilt. However, trying this cereal dry was very disappointing. Yes, you taste some chocolate, but it’s closer to the flavor of chocolate protein powder than it is actual cocoa powder. The fact that this is not touted as a keto-friendly cereal is also appealing to me because I tend to enjoy products more when they have carbs to them. Granted, there is very little sugar and it is overall low in carbs, but it’s a bit more appealing to me than a keto cereal.

With 150 calories per serving along with 14g of protein, it’s the highest protein plant-based cereal I’ve come across. They are vegan, low in sugar and gluten-free. Each 40g serving provides 14g protein and weighs in at under 150 calories.An overwhelming number of food products that claim to be healthy are made with artificial sweeteners – this means brands can make claims about a cereal being low-sugar whilst still tasting sweet. However, regular consumption of artificial sweeteners has been linked to changes in the gut microbiome and they are something I advise my clients to actively avoid. Based on the photos, I just couldn’t help myself. I mean, you look at the below product photo and try to tell me that it’s not one of the most delicious-looking protein bars you’ve ever seen: us.misfits.health Considering these are plant-powered bars, I knew that I needed to adjust my expectations going into this review. Generally speaking, plant-based protein bars don’t taste quite as good as their dairy-based counterparts. The chocolate Misfits cereal definitely improves in milk, but not substantially. That bitter aftertaste is almost completely eliminated when eaten with milk, which is awesome, but the overall chocolate flavor is still very much subpar.
