In 2017, Sooty and Richard Cadell appeared on the BBC games show "Pointless Celebrities" where they read out a selection of questions on children's television, including "which member of the royal family did Sooty squirted in 1955 (Prince Philip). After this Sooty squirted the host, Alexander Armstrong with his water pistol. In the early to mid 1960s, there were at least five Sooty annuals published by the London Daily Mirror. These feature an expanded cast of characters including:

Matthew Corbett, Sooty’s second puppeteer, with Sweep, Sooty and Soo, in 1990 (Picture: TV Times via Getty Images) Sooty and Sweep had appeared as the Prime Minister and Home Secretary, respectively of the Puppet Government in The Goodies episode " The Goodies Rule – O.K.?". Soo and Kipper the Cat also made cameo appearances. On Tuesday April 9th, 2013, Sooty and Sweep and Soo appeared as the judging panel in one episode of "The Matt Lucas Awards" Season 2.

In 1956, Philips Records released a 78 r.p.m. record P.B.528. It contains (side 1) "Sooty" (by Corbett) performed by Marie Benson and also featuring Harry Corbett and Sooty with instrumental accompaniment, and (side 2) "Mr Dumpling" (by Heathcote) performed by Marie Benson with instrumental accompaniment. Sooty and Sweep had appeared on a Rubber News sketch with Alastair Burnet on a Series 2 episode of Spitting Image. However, Richard also enjoys having some fun with Sooty’s recognisability factor on his own terms too, though. Life under the counter can be rather frenetic,” Sandford says. “I get covered in baked beans, flour, water…” Edgecliffe-Johnson, Andrew (4 October 2007). [18] Merchandise [ edit ] Books [ edit ] Whenever we do the TV show, we’ve never had a celebrity say no. Unfortunately, kids’ TV is very underfunded, so we offer very little in terms of fees, but it hasn’t put anyone off. They all want to be part of The Sooty Show.’ Sooty and the gang starred in the "Make it!" episode of "Text Santa - Help with Hattitude" in 2013.

In June 2008, it was announced that Richard Cadell had bought the rights to Sooty, having been put up for sale by HIT Entertainment in October 2007. Plans for three new TV show formats are underway, with a reworking of one of Matthew Corbett's stage shows due to tour early next year. In an era of fragmented viewing habits, Cadell sees the new Sooty Land attraction at Crealy as a way of maintaining the character’s visibility in an increasingly distracted world. “I want to find a way for Sooty to survive forever,” he says. The original Sooty now resides in the northern UK village of Brancepeth near Durham, with owner Charlotte Lonsdale also possessing a more recent version of the famous puppet. Sooty's Fun House will be presented by Bonnie Spencer while Richard is preparing For the Sooty Movie.During Matthew Corbett's reign, seven stage shows were performed repetitively. For the first half of the tours, Matthew and Connie Creighton would present, and during the second half, while Matthew was busy writing and filming the TV shows, Connie and Spencer K. Gibbens would present. From 2009, stage shows again featured Richard Cadell. The first, Sooty in Space, was a reworking of one of Matthew Corbett's scripts, and toured the country throughout the year. Over the years, there have been several attempts to meddle with the Sooty formula, but he’s always been saved by those who loved him. In 1968, the BBC wanted to replace the ageing Harry Corbett with a young, female presenter. An outraged Corbett took the show to ITV, where it was revitalised with a bigger budget. Then, in the 1990s, Matthew Corbett sold the rights, which eventually ended up with Bridge Films, a company owned by HiT Entertainment, the owners of Bob the Builder and Thomas the Tank Engine, and, under their stewardship, the TV show lost viewers and was eventually axed.
