About this deal

Editorial independence means being able to give an unbiased verdict about a product or company, with the avoidance of conflicts of interest. It’s most noticeable on plain white backgrounds, which are of course common for office work and where you are most likely to spot it.

LG’s OSD control software for Windows gives you a few more options than the single button on the monitor, but far from the full range accessible when using the remote control! The included stand is firm and stable, so you don’t have to worry about wobbling or sagging while using it. You can only set the lights to show a static colour or cycle through a selection of colours, so it’s not as clever or immersive as Philip’s Ambiglow system. They need a monitor-like size, controls, and a way to address desktop PC burn-in fears without so much auto-dimming that I want to claw my eyes out. Enter LG UltraGear 27GR95QE-B, one of the first 1440p 240Hz OLED gaming monitors to hit the market, and it's likely to turn some heads.Unlike an LCD panel which uses backlight strobing to turn on and off individual pixels on a specific surface area, OLED panels’ pixels are self-illuminated and can turn on and off individually, hence resulting in snappy and instant response time (even in HDR mode).

Games like Hogwarts Legacy and Atomic Heart looked gorgeous, with superb control over bright and dark gradients, while bringing out details, effects and RT reflections with great accuracy. Regardless, these issues will happen over hundreds and hundreds of hours of playing the same kind of content, so don’t worry about it too much…just a little. I like the remote control: It’s the best I’ve come across with a PC monitor and makes accessing LG’s very clearly organised on-screen menu extremely straightforward. As cheesy as it sounds, watching the sunset in New York City while sitting atop the Empire State Building in Spider-Man: Miles Morales was quite a sight. In a dark room like you may have for gaming or movies, blacks and contrast look excellent and comparable to a glossy OLED anyway – something we’ve tested extensively side by side. Both curved displays introduce new technologies to LG's consumer lines and provide unique experiences for users. This model has a 27-inch diagonal, so it should fit neatly with your peripherals if you have a standard-sized desk. Its UltraGear OLED gaming monitor and UltraFine Display Ergo AI are coming soon, and the brand will showcase at IFA 2022 in Berlin, Germany in early September.

Desktop work monitors, meanwhile, can easily be on for many more hours in a row than your average TV. They’ve already taken over high-end phones because their true blacks and brilliant organic colors say “premium” like nothing else.OLED's advantage over other panel types for competitive gamers is obvious when you see it in action. Thankfully, LG uses many of the same techniques as it does on its OLED TVs to prevent burn-in, such as automatic pixel cleaning as you shut the monitor after a long session. There is no explanation of what the 4 different modes do in the user manual, so we have no idea how they differ.

With a view to long-term usage, LG bundles the 27GR95QE with several systems designed to prevent burn-in, which can all be accessed from a dedicated menu activated from the remote. The connections are located on the back of this section too and face outwards, making them easier to reach and access. I've been playing some of the new DLC for Marvel's Midnight Suns, and I love seeing details on Blade and Iron Man's futuristic armor sets and the swirl of stunning particles when a Hydra soldier gets smashed to smithereens. If you’re a proud new owner of the LG 27GR95QE, or you’ve got one arriving soon, we have a guide for you to help you get the most out of the screen. Therefore, we don’t recommend using the Vivid mode in SDR unless playing games or watching videos as the jumps in brightness will be annoying during everyday use.You can do a few things on the monitor via a little knob on the bottom, like change inputs, volume, and brightness controls. You can control some very limited parts of the OSD via a single button on the bottom edge of the screen, but there’s only access to input selection, volume and brightness so that’s super-limiting. It’s very quiet and you can only really hear it if you press your ear up close to the top and back of the screen.
