About this deal

Sabrent's new Rocket Q series offers a great mix of value and performance, but it also offers a big first: The first 8TB SSD for us normal folks in the M. My only gripe is that the Sabrent Control Panel application has not seen a facelift yet, just as I mentioned in the last review. Most consumers who even heard of the term think it's just another type of LC, the more LCs the better right? This is no surprise as Intel’s NAND and SSD division migrated to Solidigm after a sale of the company to SK hynix, so the P41 Plus is reminiscent of that excellent budget drive. It also features advanced wear leveling, bad block management and over-provision features, which should improve the drive's useful shelf life and general performance.

Unsurprisingly, both of these drives use four bit per cell QLC NAND flash memory which offers the lowest cost per GB and the highest per-die capacities currently available. The typical DRAM:NAND ratio is 1MB:1GB, so the company must use FTL table compression and/or prioritize hot and cold metadata. With so much flash, especially so on the 8TB model, Phison had to invest in tuning the device’s thermals. Phison has since made special firmware for DirectStorage, which requires this fast and reliable flash. QLC performance doesn't matter if it sits behind a 1Gbps network bottleneck, and still isn't much of an issue even with a 10Gbps network. The warranty is for up to five years when registered with an endurance rating dependent on capacity. In fact, there are many solid Gen 4 alternatives that are much more budget-friendly without some of the Z540’s downsides, like its poor power efficiency. To also help prevent that from happening, the SSD comes with Active State Power Management (ASPM), Autonomous Power State Transition (APST), and the L1. Each die interfaces at a speed of up to 666 MTps, roughly half the speed of Samsung’s and SK hynix’s latest flash.

The Crucial T700 can take a beating, too: The T700 doesn't lose as much steam as other drives during heavy sustained workloads, making it a suitable drive for even the heaviest of workloads, like workstation-class video editing. Each household may only recycle one of each type of product and will receive only one trade-up discount for each product type recycled. The result is high-end performance without the heat and the introduction of truly affordable 4TB SSDs. The introduction of QLC NAND as a cheaper alternative to three bit per cell TLC NAND has not revolutionized consumer SSD affordability, but it has made higher SSD capacities practical. DRAM-less SSDs come without their own local RAM memory on the storage device — instead, they leverage the memory present on the PC for their use.

Consider that a high-end, AAA game can use more than 100GB of data, and Windows 11 all by itself may need 60GB. The SSD also includes a 12GB LPDDR4 DRAM to enable faster and more energy-efficient data processing. The newest budget NVMe SSDs have undercut the pricing of mainstream drives on the slower SATA interface (which was originally designed for hard drives), but we shouldn't expect to see the end of SATA SSDs any time soon.

The original Rocket 4 Plus was an excellent drive when it launched, and Sabrent later quietly updated its flash to Micron’s 176-layer TLC without much fanfare. feature felt incomplete in our testing, although WD ensures us that this will improve with future firmware updates. There are several actions that could trigger this block including submitting a certain word or phrase, a SQL command or malformed data. In practice, enabling this mode does draw more power and produce more heat but neither should be a problem in a well-ventilated desktop case. Fortunately, Corsair’s Force MP400 implements a bunch of technologies to improve data integrity and reliability. If you don’t have deep enough pockets for Optane, or maybe just want to out-benchmark your friends, the FireCuda 530 might be up your alley.

But instead of refreshing it with the same flash, Samsung decided to switch things up a bit with its new 9x-layer flash.NVMe SSD Review: Speedy, Spacious QLC Infused with a high-performance Gen3 controller and cheap QLC flash, Corsair’s Force MP400 is a low-cost performer with up to 8TB of capacity. This drive is effectively an updated WD Black SN750, which was known for its consistent performance and good efficiency, but it’s tailored for NAS usage.
