The end result is similar to the overdrive produced by a tube amp’s push/pull circuit as no two tubes are really ever matched 100 percent. Like many of you, I can get some good stuff out of this pedal, but unlike some other pedals - I have to put in elbow grease to get there. Let me break this down for you: it's a clone of the DOD Grunge, from Jason Lamb’s insane pedal series. To completely throw subtlety out the window, there’s another version of this clone that actually says “Big Muff” right on the pedal. You can then use the gain knob to subtly add a little more “break-up” and sustain - this is a hidden secret of the SD-1!While it does perform exceptionally well on it's own, we can do different changes to make it better, even making it into something that would rival some of the best boutique overdrive pedals available. The TubeScreamer is clearer in sound, the SuperOverdrive has longer sustain and is creamier in sound.
