Marissa Meyer can spin a captivating fairytale as well as Gild can spin gold, and whilst Cursed meanders away from the original Rumpelstiltskin story, that’s actually one of the book’s strengths. How would mythology and even religions practiced today be seen differently if no male or female attributes were associated with their deities? With lots of stories told throughout the book to keep the fairytale element, I loved being back in this world. But Iko starts having doubts regarding everything she knows about love, loyalty and her own humanity when she begins working with a handsome royal guard. The writing and characterization in both of these books were so bad that I wondered at times if a ghost author was writing under her name.

Suddenly, his desire to have his lady Perchta back sounds way too simple, too neat, too straightforward.
