Description

Using a homemade mole trap to catch unwanted moles in your lawn or garden is a great way to get rid of moles fast by using some items commonly found around most homes. If you’ve dealt with moles even once in your life, then you’re probably aware of how infuriating these little critters can be.

Definitely my go to for a mole problem, maybe not for a mass infestation but definitely for most situations or scenarios. It is made with 100% galvanized steel that can work in all soil types, including loamy and sandy soil. They dig out a system of tunnels and chambers, and dispose of the excavated soil by throwing up molehills on the surface. You may also try to scare it away if you have outdoor cats, as cats are moles’ biological predators.

In 2008 Jeff Nicholls Molecatcher working with top UK veterinary professionals sought to address this problem and following field testing made some simple changes to improve the existing Half Barrel mole trap. There’s a reason for this though and that’s because it’s more specialised and designed in a different way, as well as being robust enough to be reusable for a long time. Even though your interest is to use humane mole traps, there is no harm in understanding the other options there are to get rid of moles or at least learn about all the humane mole trap methods that are available to you. So it’s not common for homeowners to think their mole infestation is much worse than it actually is.

It's designed more for urban areas and not infestations, so this would be my go to for a pesky garden mole sighting. Moles have excellent hearing, and there is some evidence that noise and vibration can deter them from coming up to the surface.Pack the dirt around the edge of the bucket for trapping moles, then cover the hole with sod or plywood so you can check the hole daily. This will allow you to break down naturally which is actually hugely beneficial for the environment.

For the reasons above, this is why we would not recommend trying to relocate the moles you have caught in your live catch traps as they will likely die a slow death. Moles can eat their weight in worms and grubs every day, so they find healthy, well-watered lawns—which are full of worms and grubs—very attractive. The other action is to create small openings on the surface of the tunnel and use traps with long reaches to penetrate the tunnel. Keep in mind that moles usually prefer moist, sandy loam soils in gardens and lawns, and they tend to avoid dry, heavy clay soil. Now that we understand how moles work and why it is important to get rid of them, let’s look at traps used to kill and eliminate the problem. We understand that the default thought that comes to mind when you see your lawn being destroyed and filled with ridges is that you have a mole problem, because isn’t that what happens to everyone in a similar scenario? That’s why although they may be cute, we recommend taking care of your mole problem as soon as possible. The very first thing that came to mind when I saw this trap was one of those tripod aliens from War of the worlds, and it seemed a bit too fancy to look like a mole trap to say the least. One of you stands at one of the points with a hose and fills the tunnels with water, while the other stands at the other end ready with a container to catch the mole.
