While the two EQ options (low and high-frequency shelf) are nice, I do wish there were additional options for fine-tailoring the sound to a particular location a la the Kali IN-5 I recently reviewed.Interestingly though, I experimented with both systems stacked on top of one another (306P on top of HS-8s), man do they sound great.

On first inspection, the JBLs look a little plasticky; there is no real wood veneer or exotic cabinet material here.It took playback of a couple of tracks to know that the sound of this speaker is "right" and fits with the family. It’s a nice middle ground that offers increased bass performance from the 5-inch but is perhaps better suited to smaller rooms than the 8-inch speakers. The electronics (amplifiers) will be barely above ambient and any crossover components (in passives) will not be stressed, letalone warm. Offering both balanced XLR and 1/4″ TRS inputs, and adjustable +4dBu/-10dBV input sensitivity, the 306P MkII offers flexible, professional connectivity options to provide easy setup while maintaining your signal integrity. Both of these factors enable testing in ordinary rooms yet results that can be more accurate than an anechoic chamber.
