About this deal

These often include the gaping hole in our self-esteem due to a rotten (chaotic or traumatic) childhood, failing or failed relationships with those important to us, or living a life that lacks any real passion and joy—all fueled by an undercurrent of resentment as we wonder, where is God in all of this? No matter how much a person appears to be happy with himself, if he is egocentric, that person suffers with feelings of inferiority.

We intuit that self-control fosters self-respect, so when we cannot control ourselves, we need to feel as if we are in control of someone, something, anything, to feel a sense of power. If you are supporting someone who has lost a loved one, such as a spouse or sibling, remember that you don't need to do anything specific. When, through our choices and life decisions, we don’t like who we have become, we often seek to escape our feelings through excessive behaviors, endless entertainment, and even abusive behaviors.I highly recommend this book to anyone, not just someone suffering from anger but also for someone looking to strengthen their self awareness and make life-long behavior changes for the better. Lieberman's comprehensive, holistic look at the underlying emotional, physical, and spiritual causes of anger, and a practical guide to what the reader can do to gain perspective. Opposite sides of the same coin: unpredictable or uncontrollable pain brings fear, and fear that we cannot predict or control is painful.

Lieberman is clear that anger management is not a one-phase process; one must make anger management and a goal to be anger-free every day as a number one top priority. When we can separate our needs for approval, respect, and admiration, we are free to choose our own reality. Lieberman understands that a change in perspective is all that is needed to help keep from flying off the handle. Not mad I read it (see what I did there), but overall I'd say just skip this one if you're well read in the genre.

An essential instruction manual for anger management, but also a detailed work on how to get along with other people. A few hours later, we feel less angry, and in a few days, we wonder why we got so bothered in the first place. I like Lieberman’s recommendation to keep a diary or journal of our anger patterns that tell us how we are as a person and the triggers that set us off, making us let off steam, for most of the time, on those we care. Or you might try to "strike a bargain" with a higher power, asking that the loss be taken away in exchange for something on your part.
