About this deal

Then follow with single applications of fine and then finish compounds, polishing until you get uniform and mirror-like reflections. Relatively large particles - in combination with the paste - are highly effective when smoothing out any rough finishes on your model's surface, and it can be washed away using water when the job is finished. However, if you can find the 'Fine' compound it might well be worth giving that a try before getting the 'Finish' - from my experience you can get a pretty good shine with just Fine so for me Finish would just be a nice to have (assuming I could find it) rather than a necessity.

After knocking whatever texture there is out of the clear coat with a light 3600-grit wetsanding, I go straight to all three compounds to finish it (rather like the white one, myself).Even though you’ve sprayed your final clear coat, and it looked really good while it was wet, after it dried, you noticed a fine orange-peel texture developed. They allow for clean, precise application of the compound, giving your model a gorgeous finish to its paint job. As I haven't got any polishing compound I remembered that someone mentioned that white toothpaste can be used.

No matter if you’re working on a high-gloss airplane fuselage or a custom car body, use this process to get the smoothest possible result every time. But after you have smoothed surface, the following fine and finish rubbing compound applications go quickly. Direct sunlight or temperatures anywhere over the mid 80s result in soft, easily marred paint if it contacts anything even after months of drying in my experience. I was with my model club yesterday at my lhs and noticed that they now carry tamiya polishing compound, both the blue box and the red.It may take four or five applications on a single area over the course of 15-30 minutes before you get the glossiness you desire. Good to know; I'm a bit gunshy about the Testors clear after hearing a few people report that it marks easily from contact or wrapping long after it's supposed to be dry. I have also found Ultrabrite toothpaste excellent on laquer paints such as Floquil Old Silver and bright silver and Blue Magic, which comes in a tube that should last a lifetime equally adapt at polishing plastic.

I can highly recommend Meguiars Ultimate Compound applied and rubbed with a good quality microfibre cloth it gives an excellent finish. I also have the Mr Hobby liquid polishing compounds which I like too, they come in 3 grades and include polishing clothes in the pack. Since it's formulated to polish fine silver, brass and copper, is works extremely well on plastic, both the colored styrene and the clear. Be extra cautious with corners, edges, and any fine, protruding details; rubbing compound can easily remove the color coats in these areas.Apply your choice of wax in a circular motion with a soft cloth, continuing to polish until it works into the surface and remaining surface wax becomes stiff. I've also had very good luck using these with the Testors laquer factory finishes as well as the Tamiya. The wax I use is an automotive product designed for polishing acrylic headlight covers and I use that instead of dipping my canopies for the final finish too. The blue cap "fine" deepens the reflections, and the white cap "finish" is sort of a detailer; and it's the most expensive and not really necessary. I have only been in the hobby for a year or so, and have spent more time working on techniques for building and have yet to work on a good paint job.
