In the 2016 video game Darkest Dungeon, three "Hand of Glory" provision items are provided in the second quest of the titular Darkest Dungeon, "Lighting the Way". Staff admitted that there are plenty of wobbly tables in the pub, thanks to the wonky floors, but these drinks don’t just wobble over. In The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Part two, episode six, titled "The missionaries", Sabrina uses a hand of glory to gain entrance to the academy of unseen arts. The nurse is emotionally exhausted having to take care of this guy so she decides to leave the house. I tested with numerous other guns including some that have similar projectiles to Merciless (Nightfall, crossbow, bows, etc), as well as the Engineer's cannons, but only the Merciless caused the hands to drop.

In 1832 Gérard de Nerval wrote the short story " La main de gloire, histoire macaronique" ("The Hand of Glory, a Macaronic Story").Drom's Hand of Glory has a fairly extensive utility, offering a number of powers, spells, and effects depending on the manner and configuration in which the hand is lit, although it's not always 100% reliable and the fingers need twiddling from time to time. Had the idea not been used a thousand times before, the filmmakers might have used the old lights out trick along the way to promote further mayhem. The effects hold up well, but the best effect of all is Lorre’s face – he really makes you believe a severed hand can scuttle. Special-effects advances enabled Barry Sonnenfeld’s comedy to let Thing off the leash to scuttle along hallways, give Gomez a head massage and get a job delivering packages.

As someone else has commented here, it was also fun to watch Robert Alda in a fairly extensive role, and see all the resemblances between him and his son. Having already attached a murderer’s hands to a maimed pianist’s stumps in Mad Love (1935), Peter Lorre is stalked by another pianist’s hand, which plays one-armed Bach, scuttles around the library and won’t let up, even when Lorre hammers nails through it and throws it into the fire. The story is built around the greed of family members who expect the reading of a will to go their way following the death of wealthy, wheelchair bound pianist (Victor Francen) with only one good hand. There are but a few of these artefacts remaining – the last known Hand of Glory resides in Whitby Museum – through the stories of their legend they live on. They wished for guidance from Larrel, and entered the Severed Hand, revealing the citadel's history. It allowed me to savor Lorre's quite amazing talent for expressing character with his face and gestures.

A stupid tacked on coda soils things a touch, and you really have to have a bent for this type of creaky chiller, but it is great fun and it "pointed" the way for other "beastly hand" tales that followed down the line.By the actors alone you can see this but with the story they weave it really enhances the atmosphere that it's not on "A" list horror film. After all, this isn't Universal Studios, this is Warner Brothers, and there is a reasonable explanation. Caine’s severed extremity goes on the obligatory throttling rampage, as well as scuttling up his trouser-leg to attack his private parts. However, it went awry and transformed every living creature in the building, orc and elf alike, into undead beings, frozen in the final moment of battle. Since Florey and Lorre were both highly gifted men, this is all the more frustrating, as there are flashes of real brilliance in the film for all that is wrong with it.
