About this deal

The author brings to the page two real, complex and well-drawn characters that I championed all the way through.

Wasn’t sure I was going to like it at first but it grew on me and I couldn’t put it down in the end. It’s hard to believe that two people will see each other the same day every year, but in the case of Ten Years, these two people are brought together by a shared loss and meet to fulfill the wishes of a loved one.

All in all, this book is thought-provoking whilst still being entertaining and not preachy – my favourite kind of novel. We follow Becca and Charlie in the years following Ally's death, we see their relationship grow from distaste to mutual respect to attraction. becca was such a sharp character you were rooting for and wanted to shake while charlie was so laidback who you also wanted to shake.

I devoured this book in a large gulp, rushing back to it at quiet times in the day for a few more pages. Given that Becca and Charlie have never gotten along dating back to when all three were in university together, they assume they will no longer be in touch. It's because Hughes has written such realistic three dimensional characters filled with all the human flaws we all carry and possibly relate to a little too much. Becca and Charlie had one thing in common: their love for Ally, their best friend and fiancée respectively. However, the author really managed to sell it to me over the course of the novel, so she deserves great kudos for making the plot convincing to a skeptic like me. One of the main things I liked is that for the first few chapters you think the story line will centre primarily around a tragic loss and how the characters adapt. I love how upfront and demanding she is as a character as she strives to be successful in a career she’s incredibly passionate about. But TEN YEARS should in no way be classified as just another book where the reader gets tiny peeks into the character’s lives once a year because it was so much more than that.

Initially, I was put off by this, but Charlie has a very logical and straightforward approach to a lot of things and he’s willing to put a lot of hard work into everything he does. I’ve been waiting ages to read this book so I am delighted to be taking part in the blog tour today for Ten Years by Pernille Hughes. This is definitely for you if you love banter, a solid glow up story, and characters that end up feeling like friends! Both characters are very flawed and damaged by the pain of loss and rejection from there own life experiences. ee/TenYears This is my third book, an enemies to lovers story, spanning ten years and roaming from London to Snowdonia to Cannes. I think my favorite part of this novel, though, is that they are 100% honest with each other and they pull no punches when they verbally spar. It balanced their journey forward with such large gaps of time in between chapters without being too tedious in its explanation of both Charlie and Becca’s prior history as well as what had transpired in their lives since we last checked in with them.

Ally wants the bucket list she never got to complete finished - and she wants them to do it together. The highlight of the book for me was the character of Becca, an aspiring but largely unsuccessful actor, who I loved. Thank you so much to Harper 360/One More Chapter and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read an advanced (e-)reader copy and a chance to rate and review this book! The book covers the period of 10 years following the death of Ally, Charlie's fiancée and Becca's best friend.Over the course of ten years, Becca and Charlie's paths collide as they deal with grief, love and life after Ally. When I first started reading, I initially felt like I was thrust right into the middle of the story, however, it’s very easy to catch up with the chain of events and the subsequent plot that follows. It made me tear up and then immediately burst into laughter before ultimately groaning in pain as Charlie and Becca passed each other like ships in the night. Becca and Charlie are mortal enemies and only “played” nice for the sake of the one they love, Ally.
