Choosing one or two that speak to you and your concerns is a good place to start, and you can always add more along the way if you have more queries or other avenues you’d like to explore. In particular the reminder to women to continue applying themselves at work and not expect special allowances because of the pregnancy really ruffled my feathers! This is something I really love as most books and apps will only tell you what’s happening each week, if that.

The Day-by-Day Pregnancy Book: Count Down Your Pregnancy Day

These days, many of us have never lived with another pregnant woman in the house and haven’t much experience of babies either. Day 1 is the first day of your menstrual cycle and the first 14 days takes you through what’s happening in your body, through to ovulation and possible conception with plenty of helpful information about your cycle and trying to conceive. One word of caution: some of the tidbits in the book are pretty alarmist (lots of women lose teeth during pregnancy--willing to bet this isn't so common in the developed world).

The book’s pages are divided into different colours on the outside so that you can quickly get to the section you’re looking for. Uncertainties during pregnancy are common, so preparing for the birth of your child needs a lot of thought and planning. Things I liked about this book: it was a Canadian edition so information on maternity leave and medical was relatively accurate); it was informative but not alarmist; the bulk of it was set up in a day-by-day format, with one page per day (I tended to pick it up once or twice a week so I could read a few pages in a go). Again, this book is aimed at a savvy, middle-class audience that can be expected to have reasonably flexible and understanding job situations and bosses as well as the resources to do well in pregnancy. In addition, we consider the topics covered and evaluate the accuracy of the information contained within each book.

Our relatives don’t always feel they can pass on their own experiences about this exciting time of your life, especially as the philosophy around what you should and shouldn’t do in pregnancy always seems to be changing. These are extraordinary photographs, 3D scans and illustrations to show you what’s happening to you and your baby. Overall we got a lot out of this book, and reading the updates (which my partner and I did together daily until the third trimester, and then bundled by week because life got busy) became a nice tradition. Whether you choose to embark on a hypnobirthing journey or not, this book provides a lot of advice for you and your birth partner to help each other feel relaxed and supported during the stages of labour. Count down your pregnancy day by day with advice from a team of experts and amazing images for every stage of your baby's development.

provided good, varied information throughout the whole thing, but in smaller snippets so it was easy to fit it in to the day. It features helpful tips and invaluable advice on creating a positive mindset and staying informed on key aspects of care during pregnancy.Parents felt that the information and statistics provided in this book are ones that are not widely discussed elsewhere, making this a unique read. After that comes a section on pregnancy day by day, which is further divided into the three trimesters and then week by week, along with sections that deal with such subjects as conception, genes and inheritance, exercises, prenatal care options, ultrasounds, diagnostic tests, and assessing fetal growth and well-being.
