The Miseducation of Cameron Post - Goodreads

I like almost everything about this book even though in some parts I got bored because I was just too tired to read ( I was so busy lately). I would like to note at this point that I know that there are Christian people who believe the same thing and are big supporters of the LGBTQ+ community, and not all Christians should be judged on the actions of a few but it is impossible to deny that the mistreatment of the LGBTQ+ community has been carried out in the name of religions worldwide for a long time and denial of a history does not benefit anyone. If you want to know what it was like growing up in small town Wyoming in the 90s, not too far from Billings, Montana--it’s not all that different from growing up in small town Miles City, not too far from Billings, Montana. she] has crafted a story that’s likely to be remembered long after readers of any sexual orientation have put it down.

It's a shame that twenty years after the events of this book, this type of tolerance is still not entirely a two-way street. And not just because it was really fustrating that she kissed every girl she became friends with, but because it was based on cheating. In this case, I really enjoyed the things that "were not said" in the movie - the actors were able to convey with facial expressions and their body language what they dared not say out loud.

Ultimately the movie is timely, effective, and sympathetic and will give teens and adults alike plenty to discuss. Whereas there is a sense of who the protagonists and antagonists are in this novel, nothing is truly black and white. After all the hype and good reviews, I was really very hopeful that this would be a good one, but I found myself struggling through a few chapters a night, hoping it would get better - but it never did. With an earthy, realistic tone, this timely drama is fairly straightforward; it's geared toward the source novel's YA fans/audience, but it's patient and warmly sympathetic enough for others. Carefully crafted symbols provide a backbone for the story’s ever-shifting array of characters and episodes, each rendered in vibrant, almost memoir-like detail.Yet in this atmosphere of fear, hate, and abandonment, Akhavan finds an ending much like that of The Graduate; it's an escape, but one that's filled with both hope and trepidation. But I think at 500+ pages it might have all been a bit much without really reaching a clear conclusion. Sometimes it was hard to reach for this book when I knew I was going to get pages and pages of daily activates and descriptions. Teen novelist Malinda Lo wrote that Danforth's writing style in Miseducation was "multilayered in the best way, with a gradual, deliberate accretion of details that creates a resonant whole.

But after that kiss, as we leaned against the crates, a yellow jacket swooping and arcing over some spilled pop, Irene kissed me again. The program’s inability to rid Mark of his homosexual desire—even though he has fervently followed the God’s Promise teachings—motivates him to give up. First of all, like Cameron, each of these characters is so well-fleshed-out and well-developed that it's impossible not to see them as real people. Cameron grows upset, and capitalizing on Cameron’s sexual confusion, Jamie requests that Cameron try dating him. One of the kids at the God's Promise program, despairing that he's still homosexual, attempts to cut off his penis. With Brett out of town and Jamie out of the picture, Cameron and Coley spend the rest of Bucking Horse’s second day relaxing at Coley’s ranch. While Cameron doesn't directly witness any of these incidents, they all have a significant impact on her life and her imagination.
