About this deal

Like its partner, the coverage foundation, this doesn't wear very well on me, which is to be expected with the sheerer finish. I bought this on a whim since I was looking for something that wasn't so heavy on my skin, especially since I am starting to get fine lines. The material on this site may not be reproduced, distributed, transmitted, cached or otherwise used, except with the prior written permission of Condé Nast. I will use it as a day to day (work days) foundation but if my eye catches something else it will get moved to the back of my stash. Thoughts: Normally I spritz my favorite face mist on a beauty blender and then just apply concealer on the parts of my face that need some coverage, but this foundation worked as well as my normal concealer.

We tested both formulas on real human faces, naturally (seen above: Serum formula on the left, high coverage formula on the right). The Colours come in two formulas: Lightweight Serum Foundation and High Coverage Foundation, both of which offer 21 shades ranging from pale to deep.

The finish is dewy and satin-like and the coverage is medium rather than high coverage as the brand claims. You're supposed to shake the container before pumping to dispense, and when you do it makes that sound like when you shake a water bottle, if that's any indication of the consistency to you. Please note that the formulations are and will be the same in all markets but the packaging will claim SPF 15 only in the European Union while regulatory processes for claiming SPF in other markets are carried out individually. I’ve been using the entire line of The Ordinary for about a year now and firmly believe my skin has visible clarity and softness of wrinkles. The coverage was nice, and it felt good when I applied it with my L'Oréal Artist Infallible blender, which I love for its smooth finish.

I have good skin and I don’t need to wear a full coverage foundation, I just need a little coverage to give an overall smooth appearance.

I don’t think this means the foundation is a bad product – the foundation doesn’t claim to be a replacement of high-end foundation favourites.Whether with a buffing brush, or a beauty sponge, the foundation is easy to work with, blend, and wears well on the skin. I wore the serum formula all day and noticed that my midday oily T-zone didn't sabotage my complexion as much — it held up (but also rubbed off on my napkin at lunch, so it's not bulletproof). I always prefer a higher coverage foundation so this was something that I was immediately keen to try out. My skin looked more even without looking unnatural, and with so many options it was super easy to find a shade that worked for me. Its foundations come in a wide variety of shades ( 21 to be exact), and they're free of parabens, sulfates, and a bunch of other ingredients, oh, and they're cruelty-free. You could do that with these but if you're looking for full heavy coverage that would defeat the purpose. I prefer the serum formula for its flexibility and because I prefer a bit of a see-through finish so my skin can be seen.I’ve swatched it (photos below) once as a general swatch but also on the right over blue veins so you can see the coverage. The Ordinary Coverage foundation has a higher percentage of pigment for a more mattified, and higher coverage finish. I really loved that the ingredients are good for your skin and m y skin never feels dried out either.
