mGBA's more accurate emulation immediately made an impact in compatibility. Audio issues that plagued VBA-M in GBA connectivity titles like The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords+ did not happen in mGBA. Additional fixes to Dolphin from endrift also fixed connectivity with games like Sonic Adventure 2: Battle and Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles. On top of playing audio correctly, fixes by both endrift and bonta fixed a critical hang between rounds in The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords+. The Super Game Boy 2 also shares the same smaller style link cable port and therefore uses the same cables and adapters. Allows transfer of Pokémon between the games. The Adventure mode is only possible when linked to Pokémon Ruby or Pokémon Sapphire, which makes it possible to play these handheld games on full screen using the GameCube controller (much like the Game Boy Player). If the game is connected by using the Adventure mode and has the "Berry Glitch", it will patch the glitch and display a message on saving.

Fills the servers array with all the currently broadcasting servers. Changes the state to AUTHENTICATED again. When connecting, this needs to be called until the state is CONNECTED. It assigns a player id. Keep in mind that isConnected() and playerCount() won't be updated until the first message from server arrives. Specifies what protocol should be used (one of LinkUniversal::Protocol::AUTODETECT, LinkUniversal::Protocol::CABLE, LinkUniversal::Protocol::WIRELESS_AUTO, or LinkUniversal::Protocol::WIRELESS_CLIENT). Despite every player emulating every GBA, they only see their own screen thanks to a feature to hide opponents' GBAs! For a Multi-Pak game, place Game Paks (all of the same game) in the Game Pak Slot of each Game Boy Advance SP. For a Single-Pak game, place the Game Pak in player one's Game Pak Slot.Using VBALink you can play Visual Boy Advance Roms on PC or Linux with link cable or wireless linking support! Required for each player in the multiplayer mode. Allows each player to control their character and access an individual menu, without interrupting gameplay. One potential disappointment is that none of this is hooked up for Dolphin on Android yet. The good news is that, technically speaking, things should work once everything is set up. Because of the increased synchronization between the GBA and GameCube emulator, performance issues won't cause disconnects or interruptions in communication. Even a Raspberry Pi 4 was able to play The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures with multiple Integrated GBAs on netplay... albeit at 6 FPS. With performance issues not affecting connection stability, it could be worth figuring out how to hook things up.

Beyond that, there's not really any mysteries to solve regarding the Game Boy Advance and Dolphin. Everything interesting regarding the GameCube and GBA is working. Yep. Nothing really interesting left to do. One of the biggest benefits to having an integrated GBA emulator is performance. Despite being much more closely synced to Dolphin, the Integrated GBA is actually much faster than running separate GBA emulators. This is simply due to the differences in syncing versus the current TCP protocol. There's just a lot less stopping and waiting.LINK_WIRELESS_MAX_COMMAND_RESPONSE_LENGTH: to set the biggest allowed response from the adapter. The default value is 50, which allows reading all user messages (max receive length is 21) and -in theory- up to 7 broadcasting servers (7 values per broadcast * 7 = 49 responses). This library was only tested with 4 adapters, so the real maximum is unknown. So I finished up work on a simple gba rom dumper through the gc gba link cable, while it does take quite a while depending on the game you dump (up to 48 minutes for 32mb) it is a usable method. Save and bios dumping is supported as well. LINK_CABLE_QUEUE_SIZE: to set a custom buffer size (how many incoming and outcoming messages the queues can store at max). The default value is 30, which seems fine for most games. With the permanent suspension of the Higan Dolphin Shared Memory project, GBA connectivity emulation was on life support. The early protocol only supported a few games and it didn't see much use. It was slow, cumbersome, and worse yet, many developers on both sides showing disdain toward the supporting connectivity project. With VBA-M developers even drawing up plans to remove the feature from official builds, it really seemed as though everything was falling apart... until it wasn't. I'm pretty certain that this setup would require roughly the same coding as the session which runs two gameboys on the same machine to emulate link cable, combined with whatever retroarch does for its SNES netplay. Maybe there is a better solution than this, but implementing what I described seems straightforward and indicates that there probably isn't a technical problem with emulating link cable play, unless it would be too slow in practise? Or maybe there's some kind of legal issue?

The Game Boy Advance Link Cable lets you connect your GBA to one, two or three other Game Boy Advance systems and experience the exhilaration of miniature multiplayer mayhem. Depending on the game, you can exchange high scores, swap items, or play simultaneously - and some titles allow you to share the fun with just one Game Pak. The third generation started with the release of the Game Boy Advance which was released alongside its own link cable called the Game Boy Advance Game Link Cable (model AGB-005). It features yet another new type of link cable port which is used on the Game Boy Advance, Game Boy Advance SP and Game Boy Player. The fourth and last generation Game Link Cable, called the Game Boy Micro Game Link Cable (model OXY-008), was designed specifically for use with the Game Boy Micro. The Game Boy Micro features an even smaller link cable port than the Game Boy Advance, so it too requires its own Game Link Cable. The link cable features a fourth generation connector on each end which allows two Game Boy Micros to link. Alternatively, the Game Boy Micro Game Link cable can be used in conjunction with the Game Boy Micro Converter Connector (model OXY-009) to link one Game Boy Micro and one Game Boy Advance or Game Boy Advance SP. Like the Game Boy Advance Game Link Cable, the Game Boy Micro Game Link Cable features a link cable port in the middle, used to receive additional cables to connect up to four players at once. Activates the library. When an adapter is connected, it changes the state to AUTHENTICATED. It can also be used to disconnect or reset the adapter. If you wish to connect more Game Boy Advance SPsystems together, you will require a corresponding number of Game Boy Advance Game Link Cables and, if applicable, the corresponding number of the multi-player game in question. Wait, do you mean that it restarts the GBA even though you are in the dumper already? Never heard of something like that happening. M. Wiley (30 January 2004). "Nintendo Wireless Adapter". IGN. Archived from the original on 28 July 2012 . Retrieved 27 April 2007. Third generation [ edit ] Four-way cable connecting 2 GBAs, 1 GBA SP and 1 GameCube with a GBP attachment All of these reasons combined made the decision to keep the TCP GBA around rather easy. Even a decade after its initial merge, it still has a future in Dolphin. Conclusion ¶
