Meanwhile, Marasi has figured out that the spearhead from the statue is the actual Bands of Mourning. Everything else was a decoy to keep people away. She manages to grab it while under guard and starts rampaging with power. She goes to Wax, who has returned to life, and gives him the Bands. Some sort of being with red eyes visits Suit in his jail cell. He ominously announces that they are going to end all life on this sphere. Then he detonates a bomb. According to other readers (bare in mind I have only read Sanderson's misborn books so far, so I cant speak for the rest) this novella even had some ties to other Cosmere books. Okay – yes, Mistborn: Secret History is amazing. But what I want to know is: will there be a Secret History #2 and maybe even a Secret History #3? Because until I read this clever novella, I had no clue exactly how many secrets Mr. Sanderson had hidden in the world of Mistborn. And now I want MORE reveals. The lovely thing about this novella and it's contents, is that Sanderson didn't randomly decide to write it after the fact. He had this planned all along. And this novella fills in all the gaps he deliberately left in the original trilogy.

Drifter, a.k.a. Hoid, is floating around doing his thing—swiping Investiture and being completely obnoxious in the process. He’s always been obnoxious in a snarky way, but this time, he’s a total jerk. It’s been implied before that he might actually be under some sort of geas which makes him unable to hurt people. His altercation with Kelsier would seem to confirm that— Wax, Steris, and MeLaan go to a party held by Kelesina Shores, where Wax receives a strange coin from a beggar on the way in. When he bluntly asks her about the coin, she makes an excuse and leaves the party. Steris creates a diversion by suddenly vomiting, allowing Wax to try to find her. He finds her in a room talking to Mr. Suit via radio. A female steward shows up, killing Kelesina. Wax and MeLaan manage to kill her and confiscate a gold bracelet filled with health. Mistborn ( Scadrial) Next, you can read Mistborn Era 2, which has three of four books published: The Alloy of Law, Shadows of Self, and The Bands of Mourning. The fourth, The Lost Metal, is set to release in late 2022. Era 2 takes place 300 years after the events of Era 1 in a Wild West-slash-Steampunk setting. The magic system mixes with guns in interesting ways, and the planet of Scadrial is further explored and revealed.

This novella is set after the original Mistborn trilogy but Sanderson recommends it be read after The Bands of Mourning. But was that truly the end of his tale? Whispered hints to those he called friends suggested there was a lot more going on. If you think you know the story of the Mistborn trilogy, think again—but to say anything more here risks revealing too much. Even knowing of this tale’s existence could be heresy. Soon after, Kelsier finds out that Leras (Preservation) is about to die, so he smashes the device and takes up the power of Preservation. Before he dies, Leras gives Kelsier one final instruction, as he gave him so long ago in the Pits of Hathsin: survive. Kelsier then tries to fight Ruin, but is unsuccessful, as his status as Cognitive Shadow is not enough to overcome the Intent of the shard to preserve. Instead, he tries to find a place where Ruin's influence is weaker. He finds it in Urteau, where Spook is spiked and is being induced to murder by Ruin. Kelsier intervenes, and Spook is freed from Ruin's influence. He appears to Spook in a dream, affirming his pride of the young man, and instructs him to warn Vin not to trust anyone pierced by metal. As anyone who has read Mistborn knows, there is always, always another secret. Today is no exception. But first, a word of caution: There are SOUL-DESTROYING SPOILERS below the cut. As Brandon notes in his preface, this particular story has been in the works for nearly twelve years now—begun even before he was a published author. At long last, we get to go behind the scenes of some of the major events in the first trilogy. We get to find out what really happened. When Vin accidentally frees Ruin when she gives up the power at the Well, Kelsier is also released. With the world now under direct threat from Ruin, a dying Preservation tasks Kelsier to find help. Following Preservation's guidance, Kelsier meets two people from different worlds, Khriss and Nazh, who point him to a covert group known as the Ire ( Eyree) as his only chance for aid. Before I go any further, I would say that, if you haven’t already, ensure you read the original Mistborn and Wax & Wayne adventures first. And as you do so, keep an eye out for ‘things’ that don’t quite add up. Things that make you stop and think or suspect, ‘hang on, what else might be going on?’

Mistborn utilizes a well thought out system of magic. It also has a great cast of believable characters, a plausible world, an intriguing political system, and despite being the first book of The Final Empire, a very satisfying ending. In short, it’s one of those great kettle books, in which the author has thrown not merely a bone of an idea and a few potatoes of originality, but half a cow and everything in the garden. And then added seasonings. Highly recommended to anyone hungry for a good read.” Robin Hobb Kelsier follows Ruin to Vin, where she is being tortured by Marsh to get the location of the atium. Ruin thinks he has won, until Marsh rips out Vin's earring, allowing her to be free of Ruin, and take the power of Preservation from Kelsier. The message had been intended by Kelsier to be intercepted by Marsh; Kelsier bet on his brother being able to break free for a critical moment. The transfer of power almost kills him, but Kelsier again refuses to die, and watches as Vin sacrifices herself to stop Ruin. Upon Vin's and Elend's deaths, the pair meet Kelsier in the Cognitive Realm, where they all watch as Sazed takes up the powers of both shards to form Harmony. After a brief conversation with Kelsier, Vin and Elend pass on. Kelsier asks the newly formed Harmony if there is any way for him to return to the Physical Realm. Harmony tells him there is not, but Kelsier concludes that his old friend is a terrible liar. This meta article is still missing information. Please help The Coppermind by expanding it. Mistborn Era 2

A good story and a good ending to the series . . . if (this) is any indication, “Wheel of Time” will have an excellent conclusion as well. Sacramento Book Review It is planned for these books to include a global map of Scadrial. [21] [22] [23] There are short comic books that are planned to be interspersed in them, similar to the broadsheets in Era Two. [24] There are going to be allomancy-involved sports, [25] and various characters are planned to be Twinborn with "really neat combinations." [26] It is planned to take place fifty to seventy years after Era Two, [27] by which time the Southern Scadrians will be well-known to the rest of Scadrial. [28] It will put more focus upon Kelsier and Trell. [29] [30] [31] [32] [33] MeLaan is also expected to play a role. [34] Possible Cyberpunk Mistborn Trilogy [ edit ] Sanderson’s world building is astounding. I love that he’s been compiling this story little by little as he’s been writing the series and finally shared it in this novella. I agree that it may have been too much to mix in with the series chronologically and I was happy to read this all from one POV! I don't feel like I should need to say this, but apparently there's been argument in the fandom about the end of the book: Hemalurgy is bad, folks. It's an end-negative magic which depends on death... and Kelsier deliberately reintroduced it to Scadrial so that he could regain a physical body. Spook's book about the subject? Pretty clear now that that came from Kelsier. Which means that Edwarn and Telsin's Hemalurgic spikes - which allowed the Set to gain control of a city-destroying weapon and literally killed Wax - are the result of Kelsier's decision.

Marasi Colms: An Allomantic Pulser (able to slow down time in a bubble around herself) and a constable in the Elendel constabulary. Marasi previously studied law and had a bit of a crush on Wax, but she’s since moved on. She’s the bastard half-sister of Steris. A breathtaking saga that promises twists every step of the way… succeeds in celebrating what makes fantasy magical while simultaneously delivering a fresh adventure that’s endlessly entertaining.” — Paste Magazine, “The 50 Best Fantasy Books of the 21st Century (So Far)” Like all of my series, I wrote book one of Mistborn to stand on its own, yet lead into potential sequels. Unlike all previous series (which I wrote when I was trying to break into publishing) I actually got to write this sequel. It was the first time I tried to write a second novel, and it presented a number of challenges. There were some amazing moments between original Mistborn characters that just totally warmed my heart and really put a happy ending on everything. I loved tiny glances at different POVs (especially Kelsier’s) as scenes from the endings of MISTBORN, THE WELL OF ASCENSION, and THE HERO OF AGES appear in the novella. I loved seeing some of my favorite characters and getting even more answers as to what happened to them and exactly how things played out since we get a different perspective here. After being killed by the Lord Ruler, Kelsier meets Preservation as he is about to pass on to the spiritual realm. Kelsier refuses to do so and races to the Well of Ascension at the heart of the Lord Ruler's palace, touching its power and thus anchoring himself to the world. Whilst trapped at the Well, he discovers another entity trapped there: Ruin, the counterpart to Preservation, who intends to destroy the world. Are you sure they couldn't just read the Mistborn series? I haven't read SH in a while, but do they lose that much if they don't know about some of the Cosmere stuff? Kelsier (aka The Survivor): Kelsier was the leader of the group of thieves who went after the Lord Ruler in the original trilogy, and was the person who recruited Vin. He died at the end of the first book in the original trilogy… but there’s always another secret. See below for the whole section on Kelsier and what he’s been up to behind the scenes.
