Dahl, Roald (1983). De GVR (in Dutch). Translated by Huberte Vriesendorp. Utrecht: De Fontein. OCLC 276717619. Masters, Kim (June 15, 2016). "Steven Spielberg Reveals 'The BFG's' 20-Year Journey to Theaters". The Hollywood Reporter. Prometheus Global Media, LLC. Archived from the original on July 8, 2016 . Retrieved June 27, 2016. Sophie and the BFG hatch a plan to capture the evil giants, but they will need the help of the Queen of England. Chekhov's Gag: The BFG's frobscottle drink is demonstrated early, which, due to its bubbles traveling down has... unusual effects. Later on, it gets offered to the Queen and her staff, all of whom are most unaware of what it does and think it's just another toast. How very wrong they are.

Mrs. Clonkers: The unseen director of the orphanage in which Sophie lives at the start of the novel; described as cruel to her charges. Voiced by Myfanwy Talog in the 1989 film and portrayed by Marilyn Norry in the 2016 film. Sophie (Ruby Barnhill), an orphaned young girl, lives in a London orphanage. One late evening, she is awake and looks out the window, where she sees an elderly-looking giant (Mark Rylance). The giant captures her and takes her into Giant Country. There, he explains that Sophie must stay with him for the rest of her life because she saw him and must not be allowed to reveal the existence of giants. The giant introduces himself as the "Big Friendly Giant" (or BFG for short). That night, the BFG gives her a nightmare about her trying to escape, only to be eaten by an even bigger giant.

All There in the Script: The only man-eating giants who are directly named are the Fleshlumpeater and the Gizzardgulper. The books illustrations leave little to describe the individual giants, however the animated film gives them unique designs. The Fleshlumpeater, appearing to be the leader of the giants is the most terrifying having tribal tattoos and markings, ear rings and battle scars, gold wrist cuffs, razor sharp, talon-like fingernails, one red eye and one blinded eye with a scar. He has a very formidable, beastly appearance and a short temper. He doesn't take kindly to the BFG betraying the other giants and tries to kill him. Golden Tomato Awards – Best of 2016". This is Disney's first film to be co-produced by Amblin Entertainment since A Far Off Place, which was released in 1993.The BFG then explains that he catches dreams. The BFG puts Sophie inside a treehouse and starts working on his dreams. Sophie eventually convinces the BFG to take her to Dream Country. But first, they must pass Fleshlumpeater and his fellow man-eating giants Bloodbottler ( Bill Hader), Bonecruncher (Michael David Adamthwaite), Gizzardgulper (Chris Gibbs), Manhugger (Adam Godley), Childchewer (Jonathan Holmes), Meatdripper (Paul Moniz de Sa), Maidmasher (Ólafur Ólafsson), and Butcher Boy (Daniel Bacon), who are asleep. They accidentally wake up the man-eating giants, who decide to bully the BFG and play a game with him. Sophie narrowly evades their detection, but accidentally drops her blanket. Eventually, the pair escapes. Sophie tells the BFG that he should not allow the other giants to bully him. Meanwhile, the other giants find Sophie's blanket and set out to look for her. Ambiguous Time Period: The book was released and set in the 1980s, as shown by the Queen being fairly young and brown-haired then. In this film, the cars seen are rather old-fashioned, but the Queen is much older and looks like her 90’s self. Adding to the date clouding is a scene where she calls "Nancy" on the phone and asks if " Ronald" is there, right after speaking to a " Boris". Rage Breaking Point: After the giants trash his lab and break all the dream jars, on top of Fleshlumpeater coming dangerously close to finding Sophie, the BFG gets infuriated enough to chase them out with a lit firepoker to their bums. Adamthwaite, Bacon, Gibbs, Godley, Holmes, Moniz de Sa, and Ólafsson also make cameos as minor London characters where Adamthwaite appears as a Danish driver, Bacon, Godley, and Moniz de Sa appear as drunken louts, Holmes cameos as a pup landlord, Chris Gibbs appears as a late night walker, and Ólafsson appears as Queen Elizabeth II's cook.

Not all giants in Disney’s “The BFG” are friendly. Based on the beloved book by Roald Dahl, the film tells the imaginative story of a young girl named Sophie and the Giant who introduces her to the wonders and perils of Giant Country. But Sophie’s presence in Giant Country has attracted the unwanted attention of nine fearsome giants – the brothers of the BFG himself — who have become increasingly more bothersome.
