The base has to be a 3 step-like structure. Therefore, we are going to fix 2 cuboid boxes over the huge cardboard box we have. Now gather some old newspapers and crush them all. You might need a big heap to stuff them up inside the base so that they can be sturdy. Looking for the best front facing bookshelves? These are super popular shelves for those following the Montessori method! Here are the best shelves you can find on the internet. Believe me; this cardboard shelf is equally good as a Wooden display shelf because it is very sturdy and heavy and easily holds up to 40 big books. A Montessori front-facing bookshelf is designed for a child’s books to have the cover facing out toward them, so they can see it and recognize it.

Do you want space for other things? This shelf has traditional shelves on the bottom and front facing bookshelves on top! This really means less mess in the house. Moreover, This helps the kid to handle the books properly and stay organised. A must-have book organiser if your child is a book lover and reads many books every day.

You can follow our plans for a DIY Montessori front-facing bookshelf to get the full dimensions and cuts! Step one: build shelves

Just look at a recent picture of our Bookshelf where we have the DIY bookshelf over an IKEA Kallax shelf. If you want a handmade bookshelf, or prefer to support small businesses, Etsy is a great place to shop! Furthermore, you may want to consider the material of the bookshelf (do you prefer wood or are you OK with a plastic/fabric one?). Do you want the shelf being a permanent fixture in a room or one that you can move from one room to another? This is because the 4 vertical walls will be subjected to many lateral forces when books are placed. Therefore we are going to add a few pieces of cardboard to these panels using a hot glue gun. This video shows how the full making process of the bookshelf, from cutting the cardboard, preparing the base, adding the shelf and finally, the finishing touches. You may also want to take into account that a front-facing system is meant to present a small selection of books, not to store your child's entire collection. With toys, activities and books, less is more. It's important not to overwhelm your child. With a limited number of books on display, your child can focus on each book more. You can always rotate the books according to your child's interests, the seasons or a specific topic that you want your child to discover. Looking for a very traditional front facing bookshelf? This one comes in natural, many colors, and has a coordinating regular shelf, too! Do you want all wood? Some of these bookshelves have fabric slings to hold books instead of wooden shelving – like this gray and white shelf and this colorful shelf. With the book covers facing your child, it is easier for them to find the book they want. It’s also (theoretically) easier for them to put the books away when they are done with them. Anyone can make this easy bookshelf with the instruction given here. You might need around 4 hours to make this awesome bookcase. Prefer to buy a bookshelf? Here are my favorite front facing bookshelves available for sale! DIY Montessori front-facing bookshelf woodworking plans! This front-facing bookshelf is the perfect height for toddlers to be able to reach their own books and bring them to you. Customize it for your kids by painting or staining it to match your playroom decor! How to build a Montessori front-facing bookshelf

Choosing the right cardboard can reduce a lot of work. Fetch a few big-sized cardboard, preferably cuboid ones like these, and cut them into desired forms/sizes with a cutter. You need a Base ( 60 x 40 x 15 cm), 3 shelves ( 60 x 20 x 10) and 2 base boxes to raise the shelf levels. It is still Super-Cool, and nothing came off or broke from it. It hasn’t sagged and has had no issues so far. We love it so much! We designed our forward facing bookshelf to include a small platform at the top, where you child can put figurines or display different toys. Do you want something really low to the ground? This toddler-height forward facing bookshelf is perfect for you!The sturdiness is mainly due to the choice of cardboard and the techniques used. And now I am going to show you how to make it in just a few steps. Things needed: Our child adores this National Geographic book about animals and his collection of “This Little” books.
