A Shelly 1 can be used to switch on or off an appliance with a maximum load of 16A. The Shelly 1 can be used to control a light, however if you need to control a light where you have no-neutral wiring then you will need a Shelly 1L instead. Your timezone and location will be autodetected, but you can manually change them from this setting by choosing a timezone from the drop-down menu and typing in your latitude and longitude. There is also a button Auto detect location, which will make the device automatically detect the location once again if it failed the previous time. DEVICE NAME bypass (€2.42) removes the limit of min 20W resistive load, but you will have to install it yourself to make the device work correctly. As the average LED bulb uses 8-10W of power, unless you are automating lights with 2-3 bulbs, the bypass add-on will be mandatory. What’s new in Shelly 1L is how the device is handling switching toggles. Previously, Shelly devices would use mains power to run the switch circuit. Shelly 1L uses 5V logic across Sx and SW1/SW2. Please make sure you don’t connect the mains there by accident. Inside Documentation for both devices claim size 41x36x17mm and power consumption up to 1W off-load. In reality, the height of the Shelly 1L is x13mm high and the Shelly 1PM is about 17.5mm high.Connect a jumper wire from O on the Shelly to L1 on the switch (note leave the existing L1 wire in place)

Auto on: After turning off, the relay output will be automatically turned on after a predefined time (in seconds). Power on the device and control your light, fan, or other appliances only by Live wire, no neutral required to be connected to the device. Change the current channel name. This will reflect on the device name in the application if the “Sync name” application setting is enabled.  Comparison

While both switches will toggle the same relay, nothing stops you from detaching one of these and using Shelly app/web interface options to toggle another device via web request or MQTT call. A perfect solution if you want to use one wall switch with 2 buttons to control your main light and blinds or bedside lamp connected via a smart plug.
