About this deal

Since micellar waters can be used to remove makeup, including around the eyes, they should not be harsh or full of chemical fragrances or strong ingredients that can irritate the delicate and sensitive eye area. Beneficial Ingredients

Micellar water breaks down and removes makeup, sunscreen, and grime on the skin. It’s usually the first step in your skincare routine. Toner, on the other hand, is typically used after cleansing to mop up any residual product, restore balance to your skin, and minimize the look of pores. Micellar water is a gentle cleansing solution containing micelles, tiny balls of cleansing oil molecules, suspended in soft water. These micelles attract dirt, oil, and makeup, lifting them away from the skin. It provides effective cleansing without the need for rinsing or harsh scrubbing. As I’ve provided this recipe in percentages as well as grams you can easily calculate it to any size using a simple spreadsheet as I’ve explained in this post. As written in grams this recipe will make 100g. Used by me. I have used them all so I can give some personal insight, rather than just regurgitating marketing materials from the brands themselves (although all of the marketing is truly excellent, which is why I bought them in the first place!) Once you have all the ingredients this is crazy easy to make; I just weighed everything directly into my bottle, capped it, and shook it to combine. The pH of this micellar water is ~5.5 as-is, so no pH adjustment is necessary. Enjoy! If you are looking for alternatives I’d start with the ingredient lists of well-reviewed micellar waters available on on the market. I’ve had good results using Sodium Lactate, Vegetable Glycerin, Propanediol 1,3, and/or sorbitol for the humectant part—on their own or blended. Just keep it adding up to 1% and you’re good to go. Given the nature of micellar water, and the more limited ingredients available to home crafters it is not surprising if we are using the same ingredients. Again—I do not know what she used because I have NEVER seen her formula. I know Susan and I are both Canadian and as such get many of our ingredients from the same suppliers (this precise surfactant was recommended to me by Michele of Windy Point—a place I know we both shop from). I tried nearly every liquid surfactant available in Canada before selecting this one; if Susan did the same thing I suspect she would come to the same conclusion. To use, soak a cotton pad in micellar water, and wipe it over your face. Repeat with fresh cotton until it comes away clean (I usually need two). Shelf Life & StorageAs always, be aware that making substitutions will change the final product. While these swaps won’t break the recipe, you will get a different final product than I did. Garnier officially became certified by Cruelty Free International in 2021. So that means all of its micellar water range is cruelty free, but this micellar water is the only one in the UK labelled as vegan. It shouldn’t be long until the whole range is vegan (we hope!). I recommend using micellar water to cleanse in the morning. You’ll have gone to bed with clean skin, and the only thing on your skin’s surface is residue from any skincare products you might have worn overnight,” Dr. Yadav shares. “To fully remove makeup or sunscreen, however, I’d suggest a true cleanse." This is when a cleansing balm would come in handy. If you want your micellar water to provide even more benefits than cleansing and makeup removal, look for ones that contain additional ingredients like antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, oils, and plant extracts, like the organic essential oils in the Origins Mega-Mushroom Skin Relief Micellar Cleanser. The ingredient I fussed with the most was the surfactant/solubilizer. I tried five different ones: cocamidopropyl betaine, polysorbate 80, Olivem300, Caprylyl/Capryl Glucoside, and PEG-6 Caprylic/Capric Triglycerides. Some experiments got down to 0.18% of surfactant and I still didn’t like the after-feel (and also found the performance was starting to drop off). For reasons of hygiene and safety, personal grooming products, cosmetics or items of intimate clothing cannot be returned.

Micelle particles attract impurities and excess sebum like a magnet, engulfing and lifting them away to reveal freshly cleansed skin. Enriched with hydrating rosehip oil and regenerating pastel rose extracts, skin is left feeling comfortable and conditioned, perfectly prepped for toner. You can use a different hydrosol in place of the rose hydrosol, or replace it with more distilled water. You can also use more (or less) hydrosol, or a blend of hydrosols. Simply adjust the distilled water to keep the formulation adding up to 100%.To use micellar water, simply apply a few drops of the solution onto a cotton pad and gently apply to your skin. If you’re using a micellar water to remove any makeup or sunscreen, follow with your preferred cleanser. Otherwise, no need to rinse. As Dr. Yadav says, micellar waters fully cleanse your skin without making it feel squeaky clean or tight. Micellar Cleansing Technology: Micelle cleansing agents capture make-up, impurities and dirt like a magnet & lift them away from skin. The gentle formula effectively cleanses, gliding over skin to avoid rubbing or pulling delicate sensitive skin. As of 2023, here’s the price breakdown for making unscented micellar water, shopping at Lotion Crafter. Skincare should be simple and straightforward, and Simple Kind to Skin Cleansing Micellar Water is as easy as it gets. Formulated with vitamins B3, B5, and C, this water enriches the skin with gentle ingredients while cleansing away all traces of makeup and dirt. If you’re looking to incorporate micellar water into your routine, this budget-friendly product is a great place to start: It’s gentle, easily removes grime, and comes at a great price point. Not to mention, the product efficiently removes makeup, too, so you get a great two-for-one. The simple ingredients thoroughly clean the skin and absorb excess oil. “I am very impressed with the way the product works; It effectively removed all my makeup to the point where using this was better than washing my face,” our tester shares. She notes that it also made her face feel slightly tingly, but in a good, refreshed way.
