About this deal

Highlight the eyes and wrist screens with Warpstone Glow (Optional: Add a final highlight of Moot Green). We have a dedicated article explaining Lenses and Gemstones but the general idea is painting successive crescents getting lighter towards one side with a extreme contrast in the other. I could then move on to the remainder of my airbrush work on his armor. I feel like Helbrecht doesn’t quite have the traditional gold that I’d paint my custodes, Sanguinius, or Sanguinary guard with, instead having more of a brass color. I used Scale 75 Victorian Brass as a fitting basecoat, and decided the paint has enough sheen and there are plenty of crevices for a wash to shade so I didn’t need an airbrushed highlight. coat d'arms match the OLD citadel colours so there might be some difference. Shining gold has the most noticeable difference,

Paint the purity seal with Evil Sunz Scarlett. For the eye lenses, paint two thirds of the lens with red which should start in the corner nearest the nose. For the orange lenses and glow I used Skrag, Trollslayer, Fire Dragon and Ushabti for the main colours and a extreme reflection of Vallejo Model Colour White. The blue lenses are Kantor, Caledor, Calgar, Fenrisian Grey, and the Ushabti plus White from the oranges. Theres a lot going on in here, most of it simpler then the number of paints would imply, for example the lights are just Ushabti and Iyanden.

Rockfish’s Method

Apply it over any areas and recesses we want to get dusty. Once the first layer is dry, it’ll have a light brown tint, and you can add further coats to anywhere you want to build up the dust more – a good tip here is to focus later layers towards the bottom where most of the dust would gather. Whether you’re a beginner looking for an easy-to-use base coat or an experienced miniature painter seeking a versatile addition to your palette, the Steel Legion Drab paint is an excellent choice for any miniature painting project. Wild Rider Red: A rich, warm orange shade that is perfect for adding depth and richness to your miniatures. When paired with Steel Legion Drab, it creates a convincing, weathered finish that is evocative of old, rusted metal. Anywhomst, here’s how to paint these not-quite Soviets who are more Red Alert 3 than Red Scare in a very efficient paintscheme that focused largely around 3 shades of brown: Apply your brightest colour as a dot highlight wherever two edges meet – just a tiny point will do. It might not seem like much, but it will make your highlights pop out nicely and give the impression of a reflective surface.

The river is just covered with gloss varnish to get it shiny looking, if you want to get a bit more texture you can use Vallejo Transparent Water Effects to add in white water that you can push a bit further with a overloaded drybrush of pallid wych. A word of warning on the thicc water, it seems to have difficulty drying completely clear which is fine for rough water but I am not particularly impressed with it. I did some edge highlights on the brown sections with Gorthor Brown, then Baneblade brown to bring out some of the leather creases etc. The strapping was edged carefully with Gorthor Brown.Likewise, the officer on the right uses the standard color palette without deviation. Just a touch or two of red is all you need to add a little punch to a model. And with that, you should have everything you need to paint your Helbrecht like my Helbrecht. Don’t sweat it if you don’t have all the colors or missed that I didn’t saw how to paint the tiny heraldic shields on these four models in one. I left that as a treat, for you. By selecting shades of yellow, orange, and silver that complement the base coat of Steel Legion Drab, you can create a cohesive, believable paint scheme that brings your miniatures to life. Here are a few suggestions for yellow, orange, and silver paints that work well with Steel Legion Drab: Mix in a little more Warboss Green and layer up again, concentrating on raised areas where light would hit

Then I began the weathering. I recess shaded the entire model with agrax earthshade, then drybrushed the entire model with a bone color, avoiding the grey areas. You can highlight colors with a bone highlight, but it’s difficult for the white. I hand painted the Iron Hands symbol by carefully breaking it down into a series of shapes. It’s effectively an upside down triangle and a series of vertical lines and a horizontal line. Feel free to use a decal instead. The sanctioned psykers are fun models. A few touches of brass and my officer color makes them stand out on the battlefield. Highlight flesh with Cadian Fleshtone, then Kislev Flesh moving progressively to the higher points. For the basecoat we often go with the trusty Averland Sunset , then layer over it with Yriel Yellow to push up the brightness before going into shading or highlighting with our colours of choice. If using Contrast paints instead, there’s a vast selection of available yellows to choose from – Imperial Fist is a favourite as it covers very well and can be used as a substitute base paint if we apply it over one of the three primers. The silver metals are just Old Silver from Darkstar Miniatures, and the bronze barrel of the plasma pistol is a layer of Bronze and then Antique Gold, washed Sepia, and then highlighted Antique Gold again. The blue glow of the plasma and the barrel builds up from Teclis Blue through Lothern Blue, Baharroth Blue, and then just a touch of white, and the eyes are Khorne Red to Mephiston Red to just a dot of Wild Rider Red.
