About this deal

While it is reassuring that all 5 manufacturers believe that this is the best design for a water changer, it made life considerably more difficult when it came to ranking them from best to worst.

I’ve also broken one gravel tube, the threaded male end snapped right off the tube and the plastic compression nut started to disintegrate so the hose kept slipping off it. Mind, this is the only time the gravel tube broke, whereas 3 faucet pumps have bitten the dust in the same length of time. So if you are considering skipping a gravel vacuum, I recommend that you reconsider. It will soon become one of your most commonly used pieces of aquarium equipment. Types of gravel vacuumsThe Python water changer is a simple product that does exactly what it claims. Spare parts and accessories Yes. I consider a gravel vacuum cleaner to be an essential product for all aquariums – even those without gravel! Most of these parts are not really a build but just assembly, with exception to the fill device that goes in the aquarium. Let’s start with that. But we feel our efforts were worth it. Based on our rigorous testing, we found the best water changer available… I was pleasantly surprised that the Python water changer reduced my water change time by 20 minutes. Yep, 20 whole minutes less spent doing a chore – who could say no to that?

We also liked the design of the handle used to clean and fill the aquarium. Even more so than Python’s.

If you find yourself holding your water changer in one hand, then the hands-free hook will do just what it claims – freeing your hands to do more important tasks while your tank refills! 4. Heavy-duty Velcro straps

So, I turn the switch to the off position and walk over to my kitchen sink. By adjusting the pump, water will no longer flow through it, but up through the hoseand into my tank. The ‘pump’ uses the flow of water past that ‘tee’ to create a suction and move water from the tank. The tank can be below or above the faucet level. If you don’t want to use the gravel tube, it can be removed, allowing you to position the hose to drain water from your tank instead.

So far, I’m hoping that I can use a brass, threaded, 3/4″ T fitting, all female ends, which I plan to attach to the male end of a brass shut off valve ( exactly the same as what you would use for a garden hose).
