About this deal

It’s worth actively looking for “peat free” on any compost’s label; otherwise, it’s likely to contain some peat. Levington Peat Free Multi Purpose Compost with added John Innes contains a balanced combination of nutrients that will feed your plants for up to 6 weeks. We’re also much appreciative of the additional fertiliser food packet that comes with it – once mixed into the compost, this Incredibloom plant feed will continue to boost plant growth throughout the year, apparently resulting in up to 400% more flowering. We planted a variety of seeds with this Westland compost in some cell trays – tomato, courgette, cosmos, sweet pea, runner bean and pumpkin.

Ericaceous compost is used for acid-loving plants such as azaleas, camellias and heathers when you grow them in pots. Quality isn't guaranteed - our compost trials reveal which composts are consistently good and which can be variable. But the only way to know if a compost is good or bad is to grow plants in it and compare them - something we've been doing for more than 30 years. Within our growing media, you’ll discover the most cutting-edge nutritional packages available in the professional horticulture sector.Specially developed, with a unique combination of NPK and trace elements, vital minerals for maintaining plants growth and health. Formulated to optimise plant growth by providing the right conditions to suit the plant at a particular stage in its life, or for certain types of plants such as orchids, cacti or ericaceous plants. Part fill the hole with a mixture of 50% soil and 50% Levington Multi Purpose Compost with added John Innes.

Our range of products can seamlessly integrate with your growing media, ensuring your plants remain vibrant and robust throughout the entire growing season. Acid-loving plants such as azaleas, camellias and rhododendrons need an ericaceous compost that has a lower pH, meaning it’s veering into acidic soil territory.

We offer peat free compost in a variety of flavours to suit every need, balanced fertilisers for your plants and lawn, safe-to-use plant disease, pest and weed control, and a range of lawncare products that’ll have you proud to host this summer’s barbecues. It has a neutral pH and a low peat content, instead using 20% surplus wood fibre from sawmills as an added texture ingredient.Dry, clean bags that aren't torn or faded - in the garden centre choose bags that look new as the contents contain fresh compost. Many plant growers, from beginner gardeners to the heavily green-fingered, have found themselves scouring the internet for the best compost at some point. Watch out for reformulated compost - manufacturers frequently change the mix of ingredients they use and the fertiliser, and this is speeding up as the ban on using peat comes ever closer. Just to make it more complicated, there are plenty of variants of these potting composts, too, even if they’re in a different field to garden compost. It does contain some peat, but the all-organic content means it’s still safe around pets and children. There are a lot of compost varieties to choose from, and it can feel a little overwhelming at first glance. To rehydrate the whole pack of compost, you simply cut open at the top of the bag, add seven litres of lukewarm water and wait for five minutes until the compost has sufficiently absorbed all the water. Raising young plants - we use 25 different composts to grow tomato and marigolds, sown as seed and transplanted when they have two non-seed leaves.
